Day 291
Monday -
16 October
Vineyard – Sydney – Rouse Head
My body clock seems to be on an early cycle at the moment as
I was awake by 6am, just laying about before reading my book. We eventually got
out at 730am so that we could get the train into Sydney at a reasonable hour.
After running through our morning routine, we were out the
door and on the train for 915am. With not much to do, but sit back and enjoy
the ride. We watched the suburbs disappear and people come and go, I organised
our next caravan park before finally alighting at Wynyard Station just after
10am.
Our first stop was the camera shop so I could replace my camera
lens. I haven't heard back from the insurers, so guess I will deal with that
later. With my camera while again, I was ready to get out amongst Sydney town.
We walked to Hyde Park taking in the various art work and
fountains, along with the war memorial. We followed the path through the trees
before walking down Oxford Street and on to Kings across.
We doubled back towards the centre, wandering past the art
gallery housing the current Archibald collection and then alongside the
botanical gardens before venturing inside the fence and making our way towards
the water and a great view back over the city and the Sydney landmarks; the
Opera House and Harbour Bridge.
We dodged the lunchtime runners, as we walked the path along
the harbour and onto the Opera House forecourt. Of all the times we have
visited Sydney, neither of us have ever walked that strip and it was really
enjoyable and perfect weather for a wander.
We reached Circular Quay, admiring the massive cruise liner
parked up at the wharf. We stopped for subway and then found a bit of wall to
park ourselves on and eat, as we were serenaded by a terrible Spanish busker.
Our journey continued on to the Lord Nelson Brewery, a place
we visited 5 years ago for a refreshment, this time it was for work. We spoke
to the brewer and the marketing manager before Paul drank their range of beers.
While he was doing that I was busy determining where to next.
We walked down towards the water, following wooden
boardwalks connecting waterfront apartments before emerging beside the Harbour
Bridge. We took in the views of the massive structure as well as the water and
Luna Park on the opposite bank.
We joined the mob taking in the view of the Opera House and
watched the many Asian couples having their wedding photos taken in front of
the iconic structure. We then walked in the shadow of the cruise liner,
watching passengers clear customs and board for their trip on the seas.
We passed through Circular Quay again, before darting up one
of the many streets lined with skyscrapers. We eventually made it to Martin
Plaza, looking in on the channel 7 studio before electing to jump on the train
at Martin Station and begin our homeward journey.
We caught a train on to Redfern and then switched to our
Richmond line settling in for our hour journey. Paul got on with writing up his
review while I phone surfed, eventually being given the iPad to write up my
blog bits.
When we arrived at the car, Paul was eager to get out to the
Australian Brewery that we had past numerous times, so I dropped him off while
continuing on to the shop at Rouse Head. It was only when I pulled into the car park
that I realised I had no money. I was able to scrimp together $20 in change and
then kept to the small budget while picking up the necessities, coming out with
5c.
I returned to the brewery, eventually finding Paul in the
massive establishment, it is basically a very large tavern. He was talking to a
brewer and had already finished the tastings, shortly after we were out the
door and heading for home.
Once in, I went through the photos taken for the day before
getting on with dinner. After eating it was time to load up as much as I could
before finally getting to bed.
