Day 292
Tuesday -
17 October
Vineyard – Kirrawee – Cronulla
Without the alarm sounding we were both awake just before
7am and happy to read our books before venturing out of bed at 7.30am and
putting ourselves in gear ready to make a move into the fading peak hour
traffic.
We were heading to Cronulla in search of Shark Island
Brewing and after doing a Google search last night on routes to take, we
realised that we would be on the road for an hour and a half.
Paul was concerned with the route we were suggested by tom
tom as it was heading in towards Sydney, but it did eventually take us south.
By not driving on the toll roads we often end up not taking the most direct
route but we get there eventually.
We timed our run pretty well perfectly, pulling into the
industrial lot in Kirrawee at 10.05am. Dion, the brewer/owner was there to
greet us and invite us in to his brewery and small cellar door. We spent the
next hour and a half chatting to him about his beers and the band he is apart
of “Handsome Young Strangers”, as well as our travels and brewery visits.
After trying the beers he had on offer, we made our way to
Cronulla’s beaches. We found a place to park and then walked out along the
esplanade that followed the water’s edge. It was a little overcast but still
warm and I wished I wasn’t wearing my jeans.
We veered into the suburb and down the main street lined with
cafes and restaurants. By the time we returned to the car, we were ready for
lunch, so we grabbed our lunch bag and set off for the park bench with water
views. Not a bad way to spend a Tuesday.
When we had finished it was back to the car, ready to join
the traffic. This time we drove along the A1 for part of the route, before
returning to the familiar Parramatta Road that lead us in the direction of
home.
We stopped at the Rouse Hill shops to pick up some general
bits and finally made it home for 2.30pm,
an early one compared to our last few days. Paul busied himself with moving things back
into the car and reattaching the trailer to the van. I got stuck into today’s
photos before we spent time completing our computer bits, watching the
afternoon disappear.
We got off our bums before dinner and went for a walk to the end of the street and back, about 3km and that helped us prepare our bellies for dinner. I was starving by the time we got back, so i was straight into cooking up our steak while Paul put a salad together. I was disappointed however, that the teak was too hard to saw through and I only got to enjoy half of it.
After dinner, I began looking at our ongoing journey and locking some dates in to places we want to see. It is a bit hard to start up a schedule now after being so free flowing for almost 10 months, but if we want to fit certain things in we have to do it.
I was glad for an early night, with all my homework done early I was able to retreat to bed and get stuck into my book that I am really enjoying. The aspergers content is certainly something that I have had close contact with over my teaching career and is highlighting the difficulty these people have when face with the law.
