Day 145 - Monday 22 May - Sailing the harbour

Day 145
Monday

Darwin

Well the bi-carb seemed to give a little relief. I am managing to keep my hands away, but Paul is tearing at the skin on his legs. The noise of the international airport was a little more pronounced this morning waking me before 7am. We also have the Berrimah army base next door, so we have had to get use to the sound of low flying helicopters and fighter jets passing over head. I don’t know whether I feel safer with them there or more of a target.
We laid in bed until 7.45 then got up and into our day. Breakfast, showered and washing on. Paul spoke to Errol for a short while, catching up on news about his bike. Just after 9am, he air con man arrived, climbing on the roof and inspecting the unit. He found the problem, not the compressor thankfully, now we just have to hope the part is at the workshop, otherwise it will be Friday.
Paul worked on the clutch cable of his bike, which needed replacing, while I worked on the computer bits. It was quite humid outside, but far better than sitting in the van. He finally got it all up and running, problem number two sorted. He was glad it was sorted as it means we will still have transport when the car goes in for a service of Friday.
With the jobs done, we made our way to the shop for groceries and gel to stop the itch. When we returned to the van we had lunch and relaxed until Paul mentioned the fish feeding at Doctors Gully, so we made our way into the city and parked near by.
We made our way down the to the water, paid the $15 each to enter, a bit pricey I thought and proceeded to watch the wild fish come in to be fed bread by the tourists. The water was teeming and frothing away as they fought for the feed.  We checked out the variety of rays that were also basking in the shallows and the mangrove pond in behind.

Realising the time we made our way back home for a quick change and then it was back to the wharf where we boarded the Sundancer catamaran for our sunset cruise of Darwin Harbour.
As soon as we boarded we were handed our first of many glasses of champagne and made our selves comfortable at the front. There were about 15 people on board with plenty of room for all of us to enjoy.

We untied from the moorings and began sailing out of the wharf and into open water enjoying the view of the city and the cool breeze the boat lofted over us. Dips were presented, along with more champagne and then it was a yummy frittata.

I wandered the boat taking in the view and photos of the scene mindful of keeping my footing, not sure if it was sea legs or champagne. We were then served chicken satay skewers, before barramundi bites, prawn skewers and potato slices covered in a blue cheese sauce. It was all yum.

The sunset set off a beautiful golden glow before disappearing and darkness descended. Champagne still flowing, we sat back and enjoyed the evening, just another day in paradise.
As we made it back to the wharf, cheese, chocolate and strawberries were served to finish off the evening. We were so glad we spent the $110 each to do this cruise, it was worth every cent.
We managed to make it home in one piece and opted for a swim before bed. We chatted with a Swiss couple who head home on Friday after 6 months travelling OZ. At 9pm we were kicked out of the pool so we gave our farewells and then returned to the van ready to fall into bed.
