Day 87
9 to go
Thank goodness for a lay day today. I woke up with a headache and a cough. I wasn’t really feeling that great and was so glad we didn’t have anything planned. It would have been a real slog.
We got up and sorted. We were able to catch Jaden in the hospital. Everything with Bub and Ren was tracking really well, which was great news. Bub was very chilled and happily feeding. With that done we then headed out for a morning wander. We walked the familiar streets of the city centre, to the tourist bureau. We needed to organise our taxi for tomorrow. Unfortunately it was stuffed with people, so we decided to keep walking and come back later on.
We walked along the front of the Bryggen buildings, all the way to the fortress. We stayed on the outside boundary, making our way around to the rear entrance and then into the suburb. We wandered by St Mary’s Church and then followed the cobbled streets between the old wooden homes. This was much like where we are staying, but there was a bit more street art to admire.
We eventually popped out, near the entrance to the funicular.
From here we made our way to a well known hotdog stand. It sells many different varieties of sausage meat, but we were after the reindeer. It was a a very long sausage, covered in fried onions and smothered in mustard and a sweet chilli sauce, that was more like a jam. It was very good and didn’t take long to devour.
With food in the belly, we returned to the tourist centre, but it was still busy, so we left. We stopped in at a supermarket for dinner things and then returned home for 12pm. I was fading, so was glad to be able to hold up in bed. We had bought cough medicine, so I was hoping this would help.
I didn’t move for the rest of the afternoon. I went through some of the photos, but my concentration wasn’t allowing me to focus so well. I found A-ha the story to watch. It was mostly in Norwegian, but I got the idea. I will see if I can find it translated at home sometime. Paul rang the taxi man from Saturday, his mobile was listed on the receipt and we locked him in for tomorrow. We were glad to have that all sorted.
Paul found the washing machine and put through a load, but not being able to read the machine, ended up sticking them in the dryer. He then swapped it to the washer, when the cycle was done, only to put in too much soap and the thing was sudsing all over the place, so they had to go through for a second wash. They were very clean and dry by the time they were done.
Paul left me in the room, taking his fishing gear down to the wharf to try his luck. He returned an hour later, happy to report he had caught 6, that he later discovered were cod. They had all been returned to the sea. I was glad he didn’t waste his afternoon, but I just needed to rest.
We soon got our dinner organised, ate and then we were in bed early, keen for a good night, as we have a long day planned for tomorrow.
