Setting sail for Norway

Tuesday

17 September

Day 79

17 to go

Here we go again! Time to pack our things and move on. Though it was a lazy start, as we had plenty of time. We surfaced at 8am. Paul got the breakfast bits organised, then began packing the things he could. With both of us up and ready, we opted to go for one last walk around.

We again made our way towards the City Hall building, before walking up the shopping street and then taking a right to head towards the main canal. It was quite overcast outside, but it was a warm morning, 14°.

We passed the Christiansborg Palace area, before making it to the water. We walked along the wooden frontage. They were setting up for the SUP world championships. We found another mermaid sculpture, one that looked more mermaid like. We then returned up a main road, skirting another boundary of the palace. We stopped to check the very clear water, noting some pike fish swimming about. The first signs of life.

At the next bridge, Paul noticed a sign mentioning a sculpture of a merman and his 7 sons. We had to look down, as it was in the canal. Thankfully, the polarising lens and glasses made it a little easier to spot.

We then wandered back down the shopping street, stopping in at the Lego store, because… well when in Rome. You can hardly come to the founding country and not have a look. Managing to knock off an hour of time, we returned to the apartment at 10.55am, gathered our things and were out for the 11am check out. Not bad.

We walked our bags back to the nearest station and caught a train three stops. Once out of the station, we walked 800m to the DFDS terminal, collected our boarding passes and then waited  until 12.45pm, when boarding began and we were given our room key to 9104.

The room had the same layout as the Viking vessel, so we found it relatively easy to navigate. Once we’d left our things, we then you explored our surroundings. While this ferry has the same layout, you are allowed to go to the very top deck, so that is where we started off. We enjoyed the view and the sun for quite a while and we had pretty much to ourselves.

We returned to the room, after checking out all of the spaces. We enjoyed the view from our window, until the captain said we would be leaving in 10 minutes. We returned to the far busier top deck, with drinks in hand and watched Copenhagen fade into the distance.

Copenhagen has been a fun city. We have certainly found our Hygge, enjoying the good things in life.

After finishing our drinks, we spent up at the duty free and then it was back to the room for a rest. We had dinner in the Seven Seas buffet restaurant, booked for 6pm, so had a little time to just sit and enjoy our own space.

Dinner was an extravaganza, with so much choice. I ended the with seafood entree, two mains plates, dessert and then finished off with cheese! I was bursting at the seams! It was all very delicious.

Feeling guilty, we did a walk back to the top deck, to watch the sun slowly drain from the sky.  There was plenty of cloud cover to catch the pink rays. We stayed for a bit, hoping to see; orcas, minkes, dolphins and seals. We saw none and it was getting cold, so it was back to the room, ready to finish up our day and look forward to being in Norwegian waters tomorrow
