Day 42

Lake Argyle – Kununurra
Our last day in Kununurra. It is hard to believe that we have been here for a week. I just wonder where the time has gone to. Paul was awake early and reading, while I resisted the morning for as long as I could. When Paul made a move to get up, I followed, knowing we had a bit of a day ahead of us. Surprisingly, we were actually up and ready to go out by 7.30am, as we had planned.
Paul opted to drive, so I was able to sit back and enjoy the trip into Kununurra and use my internet, as soon as it became available. We navigated to the Ord Chiropractor, stepping in to the office with 2min to spare. I set about going through my accounts, while Paul was tortured out back. He was occupied for 40min, so it left me with plenty of time to surf the net.
Once he was done, we left he car and walked the block. We checked out both jewellery stores specialising in Argyle diamonds. The price tags in the first left me flabbergasted, $420,000. I couldn’t even afford the pink dust at this rate. The second store, Nina’s was a little more user friendly, they allowed me to browse, try on and even cleaned all our jewellery as we did so.
After dreaming for a bit, we stopped in at Coles and then at Red Sea Sport, to say hi to Mick from Katie. After getting the low down of fishing spots, we returned to the car and drove on to Mirima National Park, the little Bungle Bungles of the region. We paid the $13 entry, parked and then checked out the walk trails.
We followed the plant trail, checking out the info boards that explained how the local people used the various trees and then we climbed the stairs and rocky path into the small range. You could really see the similarities between it and the bungles. There was a great lookout over Kununurra, where we took in the view and then returned via the same path and back to the car.
After a quick refresh, we followed another trail through the rock formations and out to a gap between the limestone structures where we were able to check out a different vista. Once we were done, we returned to the carpark, grabbed our phones and electronics and spent some time at the picnic table loading on bits and checking out other statuses.
When we were all done, we drove on to the golf course to check out the possibility of fishing, but there wasn’t much. We returned to the Celebrity Tree Park, parked and went for a walk. I rang Mum, to check on things at home, as we wandered along the boat ramp and jetty that sits on Lily Creek Lagoon and then decided it was time for lunch.
We found a park bench, opened the lunch bag and made our rolls. We ate in the sun, all the while watching the birds of prey that were circling and just waiting to swoop in. One tried, but Paul scared it off. When we had finished, we went for a further walk through the park, reading some of the plaques near the trees, indicating the celeb who had planted it. We then made our way back into town.
We stopped at Revive, a second hand come tip shop. We had been told there may be a bargain to have, but we found nothing but junk. We then went in search of a fishing spot, but couldn’t locate it. In the end, we went in search of E K Frangipani Nursery, but that proved fruitless too, seems their only point of sale is online.
We returned to Coles and did our shop, buying up for the next few days. We put petrol in the car and then I drove us back to our camp spot, arriving home just before 3. As Paul had a follow up chiro apt for 845am tomorrow, he was keen to get the van and car ready, so that we could be on the road early. I packed away the shopping and other bits and then loaded the photos onto the computer.
Getting hot and sweaty from all of his jobs, we changed into our bathers and wandered down to the pool for a last, refreshing splash. There weren’t a lot of others in the water, most were laying flat out on the grass. We stood around in the pool, talking to other travellers and then when we were blue, we pulled ourselves from the ice water and returned to the van for a warming shower.
I put together drinks and nibbles and we found a place to sit and enjoy the afternoon entertainment. Having heard the set most nights, we were familiar with the songs being sung, and will now have to look up Kimberley Casanova and Kimberley Song on Youtube, maybe even Double Dick Derrick.
At the conclusion of the music, I went to photograph the pool. There was another guy doing the same and he had his daughter Jayda with him, who was keeping us entertained. Paul hung around for a while, before venturing back to begin dinner and I joined him, when I was satisfied with what I had taken.
We ate dinner and then went to the beer garden to continue to listen to the muso and to check our phones, during the small window of crap internet time. It was more frustrating than constructive and when it was shut off at 7pm, we made our way back for the night, happy for an early one.
