Day 48 - Monday 20 August - Lazy days in Broome

Day 48
Monday
20 August

Began book 9 The Vanishing Act of EsmeLennox by Maggie O’Farrell

Broome

The noise of screeching birds and the recycling truck woke me early, but not enough for me to go scrambling out of bed this morning. Paul was awake first and reading and I followed sometime after.

We got up at 8, had breakfast and then set about doing a load of washing. I got into yesterday’s photos in between walking backwards and forwards to the laundry and wandering around the park with Paul.

At 11.30, we took a drive to Gantheaume Point, where we were told it was bitumen all the way, it went as far as the race course and then became heavily corrugated dirt, so we turned around and drove down on to the nearby beach instead.

I parked the car on some hard dirt and then we went for a wander along the orange rocks, which contrasted vividly with the aquamarine waters. We stood taking it all in, before making our way back and on to the local Woollies.

We received a call from Cheryl, on our way inviting us to join them for lunch at the Roey, as we had no plans, we agreed. We completed our shopping, returned to the van and dropped it all off, tidied up quickly and then drove into town. We ordered a drink at the bar and waited for them to arrive.

Shortly after, they wandered in and we then set about deciding on what to eat. It was a bit of a drama, but we got there in the end. We found a table in the air con and proceeded to sit around chatting. It was a well spent afternoon, with great company and terrific food.

We had to cut it short unfortunately, as Paul had a chiro appointment at 3. We wished them all well and then made our way across town to the practice. I dropped off Paul and then returned to the van to collect our health insurance card, before returning to collect him.

When he was all done, we returned to Chinatown to do a walk of the streets, buy a post card and send it and then make our way back to the car. Once we were back at the van, we spent a while chilling. I finished up the blog and then Paul said it was time for another walk.

We wandered out along the beach front, just as the sky was starting to get a pink and purple tinge. There was still a fair amount of water in the bay and it was quite a vivid aqua colour in this light.

We walked up to the boab tree at the top of the beach, before heading through the suburbs and back to the van for a very light dinner. I went through the day’s photos and then completed the blog before we sat back in bed and watched another crap movie, this time The Net with Sandra Bullock. That will teach us for picking up the throw away disks at caravan parks.
