A day on THE STRIP

Friday 24 August 2012 – Staying on the Vegas Strip
Happy Birthday Rebecca.
Day 134 and 24 days to go
We didn’t need to be up in a hurry this morning thankfully so we stayed in bed until 9am watching the TV before thinking about getting out and organising our gear ready for our departure.
By 10.30am we were heading for the lobby and checking out before getting in a cab and heading to the New York New York hotel. We were dropped off at 11am, but were unable to check  in , so we stored our bags and wandered through the hotel. It was massive the hotel is decked out with a New York streetscape, including many of the shops and restaurants you would expect to find in NY. Once out on the strip we walked North heading to Caeser’s and back to Planet Hollywood where we decided we would have brunch.
This time we were able to get a table straight away. We ordered our drinks and food and sat taking in the surroundings. The meal we had was delicious and the cocktail I had was yum. We bought the glasses the drinks came in as a souvenir before we made our way out again.
We crossed the street walking through a section we had yet to explore. We had a wander through a souvenir store before walking into the Harley Davidson Café to check out the bikes they had on show. Some of them were on a conveyor being taken around the roof line.
We then stopped for some drinks before walking back to the hotel and finally checking in to our room on the 9th floor. The room had a view of the strip and the roller coaster that surrounds the building. We set up our things before having a rest and sorting out our helicopter excursion for tomorrow morning.
Later in the afternoon I was ready for a swim so we wandered down to the pool. I found a place to leave our things and then we went for a swim. It was lovely in the water. We bobbed around for a while before Paul decided to go looking for a bar and I got out and read my book for a while.
When Paul returned we had a spa before having another swim and then returning to the room. We got ourselves cleaned up and then returned to the lobby to catch a cab  to downtown where Las Vegas began and where Elvis used to play.
We wandered down a street that was covered with a roof that had lots of LED lights projecting pictures. There was lots going on here, but there was a lower socio economic feel to it. We entered a casino where we found a bar to sit and order dinner. Elvis and the Tooth Fairy were also there. You see some strange sights in Vegas.
We had our dinner and then continued to wander the undercover street. There were many street characters dressed up waiting for photo ops and bands playing. There were even zip lines that people could use to travel just below the roof. There were so many lights here it was just nuts.
With our wander done we caught a cab back to the hotel. We decided to walk the casino floor before heading to the Coyote Ugly bar, but there was a line and when Paul went in the out by mistake, he was shoved by the bouncers that made him very unhappy so we returned to the room so he could make a complaint.
We then decided it was time to finish up for the night in readiness for our helicopter adventure tomorrow.
