Happy Birthday Chell
Happy Birthday Chell
Day 127 and 31 to go
Paul had snuck out at 8 and was
having a shower before I even woke up. He had to wake me and get me out of bed
and ready for the day ahead. When we were both ready, with bags packed we went
to the restaurant for breakfast. WE figured if we ate a decent brecky we
wouldn’t need anything until dinner.
We finished up, returned to
the room to grab our bags and then we checked out and were in the car by
9.15am. We were on the freeway before we knew it following the same road back
to Chicago soon crossing the Illinois state line. We passed the Key Lime Cove
water park (Check out their website http://www.keylimecove.com/index.cfm ) and the rollercoaster park as well. Check out one
of the roller coasters here OMG It looked so insane. http://www.sixflags.com/greatamerica/xflight/index.html
If we could have stopped Paul
would have been on in a flash and I would have been dragged on it kicking and
screaming!
We stopped at 10.30 to fill
the car with fuel and then we continued south passing around the city of
Chicago closer to the airport. We found we were stopping every 20 miles or so
at tollbooths. They only wanted a couple of bucks each time but it was
frustrating having to come off the freeway each time.
By the time midday passed we
were entering Indiana and making our way to Indianapolis. Once crossing the
state line the time zone reverted to NY time with our clocks moving forward an
hour so it was now 1pm.
The drive through Indiana
took us passed many farms, mainly corn and wind. The roads were filled with
pickups and trucks. Most of them with no idea of how they should drive, the
number of times we were tailgated or cut off were just crazy. We were also
surprised at the small number of bikes on the road. Any we did pass were large
tourers not sports bikes.
By 2.50pm we were finally
pulling into our hotel in Indianapolis. As soon as we were out of the car we
could hear the sound of bikes circling a track. We checked in and went straight
to our room. It was a large suite with separate kitchen, lounge, bedroom and
bathroom. We then collected our bags, set up our things and then headed out to
the post office to buy another box.
We didn’t have to travel far
and we were obviously heading in the direction of the race way as there were so
many bikes coming at us on the road. We stopped at a grocery store to buy some
meals for the next few days and then we returned to the hotel.
We both needed a rest after a
long drive. We watched TV while making up the box and filling it with more of
our things. I did some net surfing and then we cooked up our dinner between the
microwave and the stove. It wasn’t a bad knock up.
We then decided we would go
for a walk. We wandered through the car park of the hotel and there were plenty
of bikes parked up. We followed the White River crossing the river a couple of
times. It was a lovely night, no wind and still quite warm. After 45 min we
returned to our room.
