Tuesday 14 August 2012 – A new day in Chicago
Day 124 and 34 to go
With a good night’s rest and
being dosed up on cold and flu’s I woke feeling much better and it seems the
weather was feeling better also as it was bright and blue outside.
We watched the TV morning
shows while I also did some checking for things on the net. We both had showers
and got our selves dressed and organised and then we left the hotel at 9.45am
heading to the café we had breakfast in yesterday. Today we were able to sit
outside and enjoy our breakfast with the little birds.
With breakfast finished we
walked north to the Oak Street Beach on the edge of Lake Michigan. There were
people enjoying the sun and the water. I went to the waters edge and dipped my
hand in it. We then continued our wander along the Lake passing a photo shoot
where the models were bouncing on small tramps.
We walked into Lincoln Park
where we checked out another beach before we decided to head back toward the
hotel. We walked through an old housing district where the buildings were
really interesting.
Once back at the hotel we
dumped our warm clothes, as it was too hot for them, did a quick net search for
directions to our next destinations and then we were out heading to the ‘L’ to
catch the red line train in to downtown. When we made our stop we needed to
swap to the green line train, after getting the end destination sorted we
waited for the train.
We were sitting on the train
next to a couple of young and skinny dope heads who were chatting away and it
was just so funny listening to them.
We disembarked a few stops
later and walked the final 500m to the United Centre, the home of the famed
Chicago Bulls basketball team. The stadium is massive and really puts our new
Perth stadium to shame considering this one was built at least 40 years ago as
Elvis performed here 3 times in the 70’s. Madonna is even scheduled to play two
nights here next month.
Outside the stadium is a life
size statue Michael Jordan in full flight to the bucket. We checked it out
before buying a Bulls pin and walking back through the ‘burbs, a selection of
multi storey units that did not offer inspiration.
We returned to downtown and
began walking crossing the river and then stopping in at Public House for a
drink and then lunch as Paul was enjoying the extensive beer list. The meal we had was delicious and then we
finished up and continued our walk.
We returned to Michigan Ave
and walked the Mile passed all the fancy shops. We stopped in at Victoria
Secret, you can pay a lot for very little in that store! We then made our way
back to a supermarket for drinks before
heading back to our room.
We veged in the room. I used
the net to check on things for our move to Milwaukee and Indianapolis before
having a bath and reading some more of my book. We were feeling lazy again and
seeing we weren’t particularly hungry we decided not to bother going out again.
We just continued watching TV before finally calling it a night.
