DAY 63
WEDNESDAY
1 March 2017 – Grand Final Game 2 - Illawarra v Wildcats
Robe
Goodness, it’s March! We have been on the road for 9 weeks
today. SO much we have seen and SO much more to see.
While there was no alarm I was still awake at 7, but happy to
stay put and read. By the time 8am rolled around we figured we should roll out
of bed. We didn’t have much on the itinerary for today, just hanging around
Robe. With breakfast done, the first port of call was the laundry to put
through our over flowing basket. When that was set Paul went off to the local
car wash to give the Getz a good scrub while I caught up on writing this blog.
We hung out the washing, when it was finished, knowing it
wouldn’t take long to dry today, another 37C day forecast and the sun already
had a bite to it. We swept out the van before heading down to the beach for a
nice walk along the shore. The water was cool against our feet but we soon
didn’t notice. There was a school group do surfing lessons in the not even
waist deep water and the poor excuse for waves.
We turned and meandered back up the beach and to the van,
where we packed our lunch and things we needed and made our way into Robe,
stopping first at Karatta House near the marina, a holiday home built in 1863
by a grazier.
We followed the road out to the coastal cliffs, stopping to
admire the views Factory Bay and Doorway Rock, before looping back to town and
parking up.
We wandered the streets, stopping in at the pubs to check on
what was on offer for dinner. Once back at the car we grabbed our lunch bag and
enjoyed our rolls while sitting by the beach and watching the view sprawled
before us, bliss.
The sun was really throwing it down at us, so we didn’t stay
for too long, opting to return to the car and check out Beacon Hill Lookout.
This gave us a really good outlook of the town centre, Guichen Bay and the
lakes that also dot the landscape.
Our final stop was the supermarket before heading back to
the van for a reprieve from the sun. Paul collected the washing that was well
and truly dry and I put it all away before going through today’s photos and heading to the Rec Room to load everything on to Facebook and the blog.
Paul joined me eventually to complete a survey for the NBL
while I watched some arvo TV and then we returned to the van to work out a plan
for tomorrow. I read a bit more of my book before we organised ourselves for
dinner at the Robe Hotel.
We drove back in to town just after 6, finding a table and
ordering our meal and again ensuring we would be able to watch the basketball
final. Our meals were ok and eaten
quickly enough that we had a few minutes spare, We opted to move into the
sports bar rather than take up room in the restaurant that was filling up fast.
Given the remote, we tuned the TV to 503 and settled in for the next couple of
hours.
Things didn’t look great early on, with the Hawks jumping to a lead on the back of great D, but we dug in and chipped away before taking a lead into ¾ time and never looking back, walking away 12pt winners with the same score as Sunday’s match 89 v 77. I don’t see it being an easy comeback for the Hawks now and we should walk away with the Championship on Sunday; that is if the Umpires don’t again, try to influence the result as they did in today’s match.

With the game over we made our way back to the van for a
celebratory drink, thinking about organising ourselves for tomorrow’s road trip
and then it was off to bed.
