DAY 70
WEDNESDAY
8 March 2017 –
Warrnambool
After a late night putting all the photos through the computer,
I was not going anywhere quickly. I read
for a little bit until Paul returned from his shower telling me to get up it as
it was another lovely day.
I might have been up, but I was in no way quick about
anything. We decided we would put our washing through and take advantage of the
warm day. With that going we went to the games room to try and win a minion
from the grabber skill tester, but after feeding the machine we only came away
with a handful of lollies. We then had a go on the bikes computer game. I
crashed out and Paul didn’t finish the lap in the time allocation.
We returned to the washing and put it all out and then it
was out and about time, off to visit Cheese World in Allansford. This is quite
a large establishment with a tasting room, but essentially is like a
supermarket. We tried the cheeses and bought a couple from the Timboon cheese
factory before heading on.
We took the tourist route to Logan Beach, known as the Whale
Nursery. Here there is a substantial viewing area where, during the Winter
months or calving season, you can watch the Southern Right Whales with the new
offspring.
We then continued down the tourist road and back into town
where we stopped at the Fletcher Jones Market and gardens to have a look
around. The gardens are well manicured and made up like baskets of flowers. We
checked out the market that had many antiques and a lot of junk. We browsed the
various items before heading into Coles for groceries and back to the van to
unload and head back out for lunch.
We had decided to go for Yum Cha, but really by the end we
wished we hadn’t. It was the worst we have had ever. Most of it I think was
just the pre-packaged stuff and reheated. Urgh.
We made a quick escape, returning to the van for a
well-needed rest. I had a sleep for a couple hours while Paul entertained
himself with his next novel. When I woke we figured we should get out for a
walk so we drove down to the waterfront and walked the beach path to the wharf,
climbing the sea wall once again and watching the fishermen and the kids
jumping in the water.
We continued following the footpath past the islands and
behind the holiday units next to the Pertobe Park. All the dog walkers were out and about taking
advantage of the lovely afternoon.
Once back at the car we returned home for our cheese entree
and then I Skyped Brad for a quick catch up before we had our dinner. When
everything was sorted we headed out to get our steps up walking to the
Seanchai pub in town. This is painted up red like the Temple
Bar Irish Pub in Dublin. It was quite cool on the inside with lots of little rooms
with big comfy couches. We stayed for a pint and then looped back to the van
ready for an early night ready for tomorrow’s move.
