Day 86

Ballarat – Geelong
The sun was coming in through the vents when we awoke this
morning, telling us it was going to be a clearer day. Paul was keen to get
started, so was out of bed and getting organised and I followed suit soon
after. Despite being up earlyish, we still took the best part of an hour and a
half to run through everything and be out of the park for 10am.
We followed the GPS down the road, stopping once to change
two tie down straps for the bike, one frayed and the other snapped. We
travelled for just over an hour, finding our way in to the city of Geelong and then
on to our park, which is only 2km out of town. We were given our directions and
then proceeded to unhitch the car and move the van onto our very tight drive
thru site.
We had our lunch and sorted what we were doing. I rang home
for an update and then we went into Geelong for a bit of an explore. We parked
in the cultural precinct and checked out a nice garden with interesting
buildings, before entering the spacey, new library.
We made our way to the 5th floor balcony to check out the view. You could see Port Phillip Bay and all the buildings in between.

Once back on the ground floor, we made our way down the
alleys of the city, checking out the cool murals on the walls and enjoying the
buskers on the street.
We made our way to the waterfront where there are interesting bollards painted up as people and a 125 year old carousel.

Knowing our parking time was soon to be up we made our way
back to the car, only to find a parking ticket, as the one we displayed had
flipped over the wrong way. Grr. I rang
the number and was directed to a website, so I quickly lodged an appeal.
Hopefully we will be successful in having it overturned. Damn.
We drove the car to the Westfield shopping centre and parked
in the multi storey and then dropped in at the info centre to gather some info
before returning to the waterfront to check out some more of the bollards, there
are 123 of them lining the water front walk. We walked out on to Cunningham
Pier, watching large fish jump and splash about. I am sure Paul was itching to
get his fishing gear, especially after he spoke to one guy who was catching
pink snapper.
When we finished our walk, we returned to the shop and
picked up groceries before getting back in the car and heading home.
We enjoyed the rest of the late afternoon relaxing.
