Day 88

Geelong – Queenscliffe – Barwon Heads -Torquay
Finished the Jasper Jones - Was a fantastic read and I highly recommend it. Can't wait to check out the movie.
It was cloudy again today. Such a beautiful day yesterday,
but today there was no trace of the blue skies. I read for a while before
finally crawling out of bed and going for a shower. The morning was already
slipping by.
We made our way in to Geelong at 10am, heading to the
waterfront again, but walking the other end. It was grey as far as we could
see, but the waters were calm and flat.
We passed the ferris wheel and a number of other art
bollards all dolled up. There is a swimming pool, or a fenced off area, with
diving boards and lap swimming and a boardwalk that encircles the whole area,
which we wandered around before hiking it up the large staircase and into the
suburbs to admire the architecture of the old homes.
We returned to the car and moved it up the main street, so
that we could get closer to the Golden Dragon Chinese Restaurant where we were
booked in for dim sum breakfast. The
place wasn’t overly busy and we were fed quickly with delicious parcels, unlike
the one in Warrnambool.
When we had finished, we walked around the city streets
before heading back to the car and driving out to Queenscliff to investigate
where the car ferry leaves from. 30min on, we parked and wandered through the
small farmers market before stopping in at Queenscliff Brewhouse for Paul to
check out the tasting paddle they had on offer.
We enjoyed chatting to Darcy, who was working behind the bar and giving
us a run down of the place and their plans for a brewery on site.
Once finished, we walked through the rest of the market and
then made to head on. We found a caravan park in town, which we stopped at to
investigate and booked into for Tuesday and Wednesday. We then made our way on
to Barwon Heads. This is where the Barwon River enters Bass Strait. We had a
wander across the pedestrian bridge watching those enjoying the water. We then
drove the car on to the bluff and checked out the cliff face before making our
way to Torquay.
Realising on the way that we had turned left instead of right,
we had to backtrack until we found our intended destination, Odyssey Brewery.
Paul set himself up with a tasting paddle and began recording his thoughts. We
chatted with the bar man before heading back to the van
.
We were happy to have some time out. The blue skies had
returned and it was relatively warm. We opted to go for a walk along the river,
before making our way over the pedestrian bridge and into the town. We passed
the Geelong AFL stadium and St Mary’s Catholic Cathedral before rounding back
through the streets, over the bridge and into the caravan park. We had dinner
before settling in for the evening.
