Day 104
Tuesday
11 April 2017 –
Dalyston – Kilcunda – San Remo – Wonthaggi – Leongatha -
Mirboo North - Korumbura
Another Tuesday upon us, this time waking in Dalyston. I was
happy to read for an hour, finding my current book an intriguing read and not
the normal style I would check out.
Just after 8am we both got out of bed and started our day.
We were pleased to see that worst of the weather had passed over and the day
greeted us with blue skies. We followed our morning routine, Paul went to have
a shower in the footy change rooms, however I chose to pass on it for today,
not quite sure about the all in deal of the boys cubicle.
Once we were organised, we let Pidge know what we were up to
and he told us about a road to check out for good views. We packed the car and made our way to the street,
following it up the hill and along the ridge. We found a place to park next to
a farmer’s field of milking cows and took in the view over the water to Phillip
Island and back towards Melbourne.
The cows were curious and came to the fence to check out what we were doing, making sure we were never out of their eyesight.

We continued on the road, stopping a couple more times to
take in the view over Kilcunda. There were some terrific spots to take
advantage of the view and well worth the drive.
The road eventually returned to the main drag in Kilcunda
and we parked up by the beach and took a walk checking out the swimming beach
and then walking across the bridge over the creek.
I took advantage of taking photos of the structure before we returned to the car and drove out to San Remo.

We were intending on picking up groceries, but as there
wasn’t much choice, we decided to just check out the foreshore, the road bridge
connecting Phillip Island to the mainland and the pelicans. We then opted to
head on to Wonthaggi, where we knew there was a greater selection of stores.
We parked outside Woolies and did a big shop, as we were out
of a few key things and needed to restock. Once we had it packed in the car, we
drove back to the van and unpacked everything, before having a hot cross bunny
and then lunch.
We consulted the tourist brochure and worked out an
itinerary for this afternoon, then clambered back in the car and drove towards
Inverloch, not stopping in at the town, rather changing the destination to
Leongatha and continuing our journey.
We again didn’t stop in at the town, choosing to just drive
through and make our way on to Mirboo North, where Paul was eager to get to the
Grand Ridge Brewery. We pulled in to their car park and made our way inside and
made ourselves comfortable. Paul was looked after the bar manager, Nick, who
gave Paul a taste of their 15 beers and 2 ciders as they chatted all things
beer. As 5 of the beers came from stubbies, Paul was then told to finish those
off as well. Just as well he had a driver.
With most of the afternoon gone, I poured him into the car
and we made our way home via Korumburra getting in just before 5pm. I had had a
message from Laura with a photo of the boys with Yogi, the first we have seen
of him since we left. He looked really well.
I sat and worked on the photos for the day and then rang
home, talking to Mum, Brad, Laura and the boys. It was great to hear from
everyone and catch them all in one place, with Laura promising to send through
more pictures of Yogi dog. They were left with strict instructions to give him
lots of cuddles.
After the call, I started on dinner and then we ate, cleaned
up and at back to enjoy the quiet time for the rest of the evening.
