Day 109
Easter Sunday
16 April 2017 – Started my next novel “Still Alice” by Lisa
Genova. I expect this to be an interesting read seeing it was made into a film
a few years back. I haven’t seen the film but may do if the novel piques my
interest.
Sale -
Another day in Sale arrives to greet us. It was overcast and
cool but no rain was threatening. We had a lazy sleep in before reading and
finally getting out for a shower at 9am.
We tried a different shower block on the other side of the
oval. We came across this one during our walk yesterday and as it was newer and
more caravan park like, we thought we would give it a go. It did afford greater
space, but the water temp wasn’t constant, so I think we will be back to the
closer ones with the creeping curtains tomorrow.
We had breakfast and tidied the van, before taking the car
across the road and giving it a good vacuum. The machine wasn’t that great at
its job and the nozzle was too cumbersome to get into the tighter spots, but it
still helped pick up most of the dirt that has accumulated in the past months.
With the domestic duties out of the way, we packed up the
car and mad our way to the farmers market. This was more a bric-a-brac come
swap meet than farmers market, but it was still fine to wander around and Paul
was able to pick up another spool for his fishing rods.
We continued on to the wetlands walk where we could follow
the path and later boardwalk out over the wetland areas and check out the bird
life calling the place home. It was quite pleasant and the sun was coming out
to play for a bit. I was able to photograph the various bird life; cranes,
egrets, spoonbills, all while watching the massive carp jumping from the water.
We returned to the car and into the town to stop briefly at
the shop before coming home for lunch. We ate and Paul cracked his Easter
present, White Rabbit’s Chocolate stout, that he has been carrying since we
visited the brewery in March. I went through the photos and checked the net
while Paul continued to read.
After sitting around for long enough, we decided to go and
walk around Lake Guthridge. This lake is in the middle of town. We parked up
and then began our trek around the perimeter, the path lead through the
botanical gardens. There weren’t many flowers but the trees were clothed in
their autumn colours and putting on a beautiful show. I am looking forward to
getting into the high country next week and seeing the autumn colours painted
over the trees.
We completed our 2.4km circuit in about 40min and returned
to the van. I opted to sit outside for a while and read before the chill in the
air drove me back inside. At 5.30pm we wandered over to the greyhound track, we
had been told they did good meals and happy hour meant $2 pots, a middy glass
of beer. We grabbed a drink before finding a place to sit in the bistro. From
here we could watch the races and the TV running the footy. We were alerted
every time a new race was to begin with the “Who Let the Dogs Out?” tune.
Despite being super busy, the meal was served promptly. We
ate and then joined our “neighbours” Lyn and Lionel on the comfy couches for a
couple of drinks and a chat. They were already well oiled by the time we joined
them and the conversation went around in circles, was on repeat or was
completely mumbled.
They left before we did, staggering out the door. We
finished our drinks and then made the trek in the cool back to the van for just
after 8pm ready to wind down and call it a night, the last one in Sale.
