Day 107
Good Friday
14 April 2017 –
Sale – Seaspray – Golden Beach – Longford
Easter in Sale. We were awake later, 8am and happy to read
for a while as we let the light of the day leak into the van. It was fairly
quiet where we were parked amongst the permanent residents, which was lovely.
We got up just after 8.30am and made our way over to the toilet block for our
shower before returning to the van. With the number of people here calling this
place home, I was surprised that there wasn’t a cue for the one of the three
showers, must have got in at the right time.
We were in go-slow mode this morning with no real plans.
After breakfast we took a wander around the park before heading out on the
street and into the town centre, which of course, was relatively quiet. We did
come across a hot rod show and shine that we happily wandered around before walking
down the main mall, checking out the art and making the loop back to the van.
It was hot cross bunny time by the time we returned and a
milo went down well, being a little cooler. It was sunny when we woke, but the
sun battled most morning with the blanket of cloud.
We packed up our lunch then it was off exploring. We drove
out to Seaspray first of all. There were people fishing off a small jetty into
the river but didn’t look like they were having much luck. From here we could
see the beach and you could see straight away why the name Seaspray had stuck.
The waves were whipping in and leaving a long white trail of water droplets
behind them.
The spray became even more apparent when we walked out onto
the beach. As far as you could see, in both directions, was a white mist
rolling off the top edge of the waves as they thundered into shore. It was
almost like a sea fog was rolling in.
We were glad to get back to the car, as it was quite fresh
outside and continue our journey. We followed the road back towards Sale, but
then took the road towards Golden Beach. A school fete had us stopping for a
brief look, but the rain began coming down and had us scurrying back to the
shelter of the car.
About 30min later we reached Golden Beach. The weather
hadn’t improved, though it was no longer raining. We grabbed our lunch bag and
found a bench seat to sit at and eat. We didn’t hang around for long, eating,
checking the water and then heading on.
Our final stop was the historic swing bridge in Longford
that spans the river. You can’t drive over it and part of it was covered for
repairs after vandals had taken to it. We were able to walk over it and chat to
people fishing in the area catching carp. This didn’t interest Paul, who did
have his fishing gear in the car.
We returned to the car and made our way back to Sale,
stopping quickly for a photo opportunity of tree with its autumn colours on
show.
We took it easy, once back at the van. I went through all
the photos and finally got on top of backing everything up to my extra hard
drive. Paul read his book and rang Bollsy for a chat.
I started dinner and danced around to the ipod to get my
steps up and to keep warm. We ate and then went for a walk around the camp site
and the greyhound track before returning to the van for quiet time before bed.
