Day 110
Monday
17 April 2017 –
Sale – Stratford – Lakes Entrance
On the move and ready for it, Sale has been a required stop
over the busy Easter period, but isn’t a place to be for too long. I was up and
out first for a change, getting the breakfast ready while Paul stayed in bed
reading. Once he was out, it was all go and we were pulling out of the park at
9.30am, after checking on our drinking mates from last night.
We commented on the endless stream of returning
holidaymakers passing us on their route back to Melbourne suburbia. It was a
welcome sight as it meant there would be plenty of room for us.
We stopped for fuel in Stratford on the River Avon. I took
off to take a photo of the river, but couldn’t get to the spot I wanted to take
a picture of. We returned to the road, passing through Bairnsdale once again,
but this time turning off to Lakes Entrance.
At 11am, we pulled into the Rec ground. We were given a pull
through bay, but unfortunately wasn’t waterfront, that said it was only a 30sec
walk to the water’s edge. We set up the van, unhitched the car and then settled
in to our mid morning hot cross bunny.
Paul went for a shower, while I read and then we set the
washing on as we were fast running out of clean things. I had a shower and
returned to the van to continue to read while Paul hung out the clothes.
Our neighbours, Lionel and Lyn from Sale, pulled in to the
park, being given a site further along the oval. We let them know where we were
and then organised to play golf. We continued to walk around the park checking
the water and admiring the glorious day we were having.
Once back at the van, we had our lunch and then read until
the call for golf came. We followed in our getz to the Lakes Entrance Golf
Club, a public course nestled between the ocean and the lake systems. With the $18 green fees paid we were off and
out enjoying 9 holes. It was a lovely
afternoon for a walk around in the sun and enjoying the natural environment
while watching for the native wildlife. I was designated to ball spotter as I
wasn’t playing, keeping an eye out for the wayward shots.
I was also watching out for photo opportunities. An echidna
wandered just beyond the 5th tee, but when I took off after it, it
took flight and hurriedly found cover amongst the bushes, preventing me from
taking any shots of it.
Paul played an average game, carding a 60, I think he was
beaten by both Lionel and Lyn, but for an unknown course and someone who
doesn’t play as regularly as they obviously do, he did ok.
When we completed the game we returned to the van. Paul
joined the others for a drink while I stayed behind organising the dinner and
then loading the very few photos I had taken on to the computer.
