Day 190
Thursday
6 July 2017 –
Tully – South Mission Beach
After a good night’s sleep, I was awake early and happy to
lay in bed and read for an hour before finally getting up. We both made our way
to the loos and noticed the smoke stacks of the sugar processing plant were
still pumping out gasses into the atmosphere at an alarming rate.
We had our breakfast and then took a drive in to Tully for
milk and chocolate, before returning and packing everything up ready to move
on. We moved the van so that we could load the car easily and then we were off.
South Mission was only about 30km away so it wasn’t a long drive before we were
puling in at the park. I sorted our bill as Paul set up the van, only for me to
say we had to move, as we couldn’t have our initial spot for the four days we
wanted.
We moved the car over a couple of spots and while the ground
was a little mucky we now had beach views from our windows. I went to put the
washing on, while Paul set up and then went for a shower. I began frantically
putting on the blog and photos on
Facebook, happy to have a reasonable connection with no restrictions again.
YAY!
I went for a shower before returning and making lunch. We
were being really lazy and were in no hurry to make a move, however at 1.30pm
we got motivated and took off for Murdering Point winery, a place we had been
advised we should check out.
They had a selection of white and red wines, port, liqueur
and creams to try, all made from exotic tropical fruits. We tried the range
before choosing six to take away. After
our tasting, we drove on to Kurimine Beach, another sleepy beachside spot.
We parked and walked along the beach, taking in the views of
the islands and King Reef. We then drove around to the local pub, bought some
drinks and sat out on the lawn enjoying the view and the sun on our backs as we
chatted to the owner as he mowed the lawns around us.
When we had finished, we returned to the van, happy to
relax. I took myself off for a walk along the beach. It was just divine walking
along the water’s edge in the cooling water and watching the comings and goings
on the water.
I returned to Paul and we did a walk through the park.
Cassowarys are known to come into the park on a regular basis, so I was on the
lookout.
Once back at the van we sorted dinner and settled in for the
evening. Lazy days are the best days.
