Day 206

Proserpine – Airlie Beach
Yesterday’s early call and long day caught up with me this
morning, waking but still feeling foggy. Our caravan park is next door to the
little plane airport that takes up skydivers and people interested in seeing
the reef from above, read lots of dough, and they start up at 7am, so I was
awake with the first departure.
Not being able to ignore the growl and rumble of engines, I
stayed in bed reading until 8.30am, getting our when Paul returned from his
shower. I went for mine, but it didn’t help shift the daze I was walking around
in.
Paul suggested we head out to Proserpine for a round of
golf, so he rang, booking a 10am tee time and then bundled me in the car, I
took the opportunity to keep my eyes shut for a further 30min, it wasn’t long
enough.
We pulled in on at 10am, sorted clubs, paid the club pro and
then made our way out on to the first. The morning was fine and warm but there
was a bit of a breeze that would play havoc with high-flying balls.
The course was quite busy and we soon reached the group of
four in front who were happy to let us play through thankfully. It would have
been a slow round if we had to wait behind them. As it was we were all done by
11.30am.
We returned to the car and headed in the direction of home,
stopping for fuel and then in Airlie. We decided to have one of the cheap pub
lunches we had seen advertised previously. We put in our order, enjoyed our
complimentary drink and then ate our meal all the while watching feral kids run
around.
We did a quick stop at Woollies and then it was on to the
park for a restful afternoon spent reading and going through yesterday’s
photos. Paul was asleep on the bed not long after taking his book to read, I could
have done the same, but wanted to power through the backlog of bits I had.
At 3.30pm we returned to the Woollies car park and then
wandered down to Denman Beer café to enjoy an afternoon cocktail in the sun and
for Paul to purchase one of the t-shirts they had on offer. We were glad the
“Wolfpack” bucks boys vacated as we arrived.
After enjoying the drinks we stopped again at Woollies and then drove to Shingley Beach where we walked the high road pedestrian path through the houses on the hill that had great views but also obvious repairs being completed.
We rounded out via Coral Sea Resort and through the Abell Point Marina before making it back to the car and watching two wedding trucks pull up.
Once back at the van, Paul put the car on the trailer and I
organised our dinner while also loading photos.
The two-man band was back playing in the park, but we opted to eat in
and take it easy with the past few days catching up on us.
