Day 200
Sunday
16 July 2017
Bowen
I don’t know what is going on at the moment but the body
clock is set to 6.30am! Being awake that early just means laying in bed for
longer and reading. We got ourselves out at 8 and ate breakfast thinking about
how we would spend our day.
I found out from the office staff that a market was
occurring down by the Queens Beach, so we made our way there in the car. It was
quite busy, but we found a park on a side street and then had a wander around
the markets stalls, picking up some cheap vege.
We returned the purchases to the car and then made our way
along the shore of Queens Beach. I had stupidly left the SD card for my camera
in the computer at home, so had to be satisfied with taking photos with the
phone, grr.
We completed the length of the beach, happy to move back to
the path to return as it was in the shade. We walked through the market once
again before jumping in the car and driving around to Bowen Golf Club. We
enquired about playing golf tomorrow morning and were told it was no problem.
We then took the long way around, winding our way back to
the caravan park. Being such a glorious day, we thought it best to put our
washing through, so we were off to the laundry on our return. We then walked
over to the fishing marina where we stopped in at one of the fish wholesalers
to pick up some oysters and prawns.
The washing was ready to be put out by the time we came back
and then we could sit and relax in the van for a bit. I did some checking of
caravan parks for Airlie Beach and booked into one for 5 days. We figured it
was easier to phone ahead after having trouble finding somewhere here in Bowen.
I then did some looking into day trips to Hamilton Island and snorkelling on
the reef finding some of interest.
We had our lunch and then went for a wander into town
looking for the IGA to buy bacon for our oyster dinner. We checked out streets
we hadn’t yesterday and admired a few of the murals that dot the town.
We worked up a sweat in the bright and warm sun, so when we
returned I made my way to the pool to cool off, while Paul stayed put reading
his book. I sat on the edge with my feet dangling, as the water was quite bracing.
I did eventually slide in to sit on the sloping wall, but didn’t venture any
further.
After my 40min submersion, I returned to the van, just as
Paul was emerging, dressed in his fishing gear. He took off in the car for the
bridges passing over Magazine Creek while I sat back in the van enjoying the
peace of the afternoon.
I eventually went for a shower and then watched new
neighbours pull in beside us.
Paul returned empty handed, though he had had plenty of
bites. We organised our dinner, oysters and prawns yum yum and then we went out
for a walk, taking in the full length of the jetty. There were some fishermen
out trying to catch something but they were all giving the same story, nothing
biting.
We made our way back to the van to enjoy the cool evening
breeze. I had a phone call from Cathy and we had a good gossip session and soon after it was time to head to bed.
