DAY 41
TUESDAY
7 February 2017 –
Started book 5 - JK Rowling’s play “Fantastic Beasts and
Where to Find Them”
Corny Point – Marion Bay – Meehan Hill Lookout – Kangaroo
Island Lookout – Foul Bay – Port Moorowie – Warooka
An early start to today with the birds ensuring we were
awake before 7. We took advantage of the early start, getting up and organised
and by 9am we were heading on out of Corny Point and on to Marion Bay only
40min further on down the road. We located the caravan park, signed in and
found our site. After squeezing through the trees we began to unload and set up
our little patch.
Checking the local map we made our plans for sightseeing and
took off in the Getz for the afternoon.
Following the rough limestone gravel roads, we traveled to
Meehan Hill Lookout for a view back to Marion Bay and the limestone cliffs. We
stood out by the cliff’s edge being blown by the wind, but at least the sun was
out today. Back in the car we wound our
way to Kangaroo Island Lookout.
From this lookout we could make out the faint shadowy line
of Kangaroo Island in the distance. Below we could see the black volcanic rock
stretching out from the shore. The wind
was still howling, so we sought refuge back in the car and continued on our way
to Foul Bay where we stopped to eat lunch sitting on some seats at the beach.
Perfect, although the bay itself was nothing special and certainly lived up to
its name.
Once full, we moved on to our final destination, Port
Moorowie. This was the largest of the places we visited. We took a walk along
the path following the beach and enjoying the view as we meandered our way
around.
After finishing up we returned to the road, finally finding
bitumen again. We drove once again through Warooka and on to Marion Bay,
arriving home by 3pm. The clouds had disappeared, but the wind was still
rustling around. After taking stock, we took to the footpath and walked to the
centre of town. We took a walk out on the jetty, before going into the tavern
for a drink. Paul enjoyed trying two new
varieties of stout from Swells Brewery and Pikes Brewery. He said the Swells
Stout was the better of the two.
We made our way back to the park taking the opportunity to
hang out in the kitchen rec room and watch the news. Two hours later we had
cooked up our garlic prawns and retreated to the van to have dinner. Our usual
routine wander to finish off the evening, out to Penguin Point and on to
Willyama Bay to check out the remains of a shipwreck before returning to the van
for quiet time and bed.
