DAY 47
MONDAY
13 February 2017 –
Adelaide
Super lazy start to the day. It stayed cool most of the night, so we had a night under the doona. We didn’t surface until 830am, probably because it was quite grey outside. We dawdled along with breakfast and getting ready, eventually getting into the car by 10.30am, a late one for us.
Today we wanted to head into Adelaide and do a bit of
shopping and a wander of the main streets. We followed the GPS to a central
parking area before loading up with our gear and hitting the streets. I lead us
to Rundle Mall, passing many of the churches that Adelaide is famous for. Once
in the shopping strip we were off to check out a couple of malls in particular
looking for some new clothes that will fit both of us, seeing the weight is
falling off.
While in the shops Mum called so we had a quick chat about
the trip and what is happening at home. It was good to catch up and get the
heads up on Yogi, who is apparently very relaxed but due a bath.
After new clothes and sneakers were sorted, I picked up some
camera gear that I needed to replace and we bought some batteries for the tyre
pressure kit, so we don’t have any go missing in action again, then it was back
to the car, taking photos of interesting buildings and art along the way.
We dropped off our shopping and then we waked to a dim sum
restaurant I had found on the net, Star House. We knew we were on a winner when
we saw how busy it was, despite this we were served quickly and eating soon
after, relieving Paul’s food cravings.
While at the restaurant we were called by Chris Around
Australia Caravan Rpeairs who was ready to come by. We finished up our lunch
with delicious Portuguese tarts, made a pit stop at the post office and then
returned to the car park, where we were slugged $25 for the privilege of
parking. Next time I will ride the bike or the bus.
Back at the park by 3pm, we called Chris who was here
shortly after to assess our leaking shower problem. Thankfully he was able to
locate the problem, but didn’t have the part, so off he went to source it while
Paul continued to bail out the reservoirs under the toilet.
Chris returned shortly after to finally fix our problem and
share stories of other travellers misadventures, we certainly got off lightly
with our issue, he kept Paul entertained with schoolboy stories, I was very
enlightened. $150 later we were all
sorted and happy to be able to hook up to mains water without it leading to a
flooded van. YAY!
We then went to the local shop to pick up a few things
needed for dinner, before Paul picked up some beers that amused us due to the
name, Marcello Barbell, then name of Paul’s cousin in the UK.
We battled the evening traffic to the park and sorted dinner
before checking out what we could do for tomorrow. A trip to the Adelaide Hills
seems like a go. With that decided we then closed up the van again and made the
trek around the Linear Park, enjoying the cooler evening. I once again scouted
for koalas, but they remained well hidden. We also chatted to Paul’s cousin
Marcello as we got our steps up for the day.
