DAY 52 - (Ok it is actually day 62 now but I have only just found internet again, Yippee)
SATURDAY
18 February 2017 –
Adelaide – McLaren Vale
Here we go again. It was cold and windy for much of the
night and it was still that way when we woke at 7.30am. Paul, knowing he had
plenty to do, was up and off getting ready while I stayed put reading my book,
it was too nice in bed.
By the time he returned from his shower I got out and headed
for mine before returning for breakfast as he readied the van for our departure
again. We shifted the van to outside the park so that we could get the car on
the trailer and once everything was stowed where it needed to be we joined the
Saturday traffic skirting Adelaide on the ring road.
We stopped for fuel causing a minor meltdown of the GPS
sending around in circles before finally getting back on the road needed and
heading south. Once it was sorted it was fairly straight forward and by 11.15am
and an hour of driving we had made it to McLaren Vale and checked in to the
McLaren Vale Lakeside Caravan Park.
We weren’t able to get a drive through site this time, but
the place we were put meant we could drive the van through without the car so
it wasn’t too bad. We had to help out
the neighbours who had just pulled in with their set up and then we could set
up or own site. With it all sorted we had lunch, rang the Kinsmans to organise
our visit and then did a walk around the park, which is quite large with a
pool, spa, basketball court, but no internet NOOOOOOO!
We returned to the van to read up on the area in the tourist
info and then we hopped in the car to drive down the main road to the tourist
info centre. We checked out the scratchboard art on display that was just
incredible and then had a wine tasting before getting some info about the
region and returning to the car to park further up the street, so we could have
a wander around.
Our first stop was Hardys TIntara Estate for a wine tasting.
The old buildings on the bock are quite impressive. The cellar door was quite
busy, but we found a space and joined the others trying the wine. We both
really enjoyed the specialty “Sauvignon Blanc Liqueur” but at $100 a bottle we
had to just savour the sip we were given.
We wandered the grounds after our tasting and checked out
the museum they had set up overlooking the winery before continuing down the
road and in to the pub to see if they had Fox, no. We crossed the road to check
out the FruChocs store as we had a freebie voucher. We were able to taste test
a piece, it didn’t really taste that great, but we picked up the freebie anyway
and continued on our way back up the street.
We passed another winery, Vaserelli, so we stopped for
another wine tasting. I only tried their whites, but I didn’t enjoy any of them
and Paul didn’t particularly enjoy the reds he had.
We walked on to the
end of the street before crossing the road and stopping at the supermarket for
more chocolate supplies and then it was back to the car and on to the caravan
park for a rest.
After dinner we decided to head to the coast for a walk. We
headed to Seaford Beach 20min from the park and found a parking spot before
walking along the walking path at the top taking in the view of the churning
surf and then cliffs further south. We
returned to the Getz and followed the esplanade north stopping to admire the
views of the Onkaparinga river mouth at Port Noarlunga. It was quite a
beautiful site as the sun set. Paul was interested in those fishing the river
mouth.
We returned to the warmth of the car and made our way back
to the park where we read and I worked on the photos I had taken before bed.
