DAY 51
FRIDAY
17 February 2017 – Cairns 69 v Wildcats 91– Game 1 semi final. WOOP WOOP! Awesome win
Adelaide Hills – Morialta Conservation Park – Lobethal
Happy for a quieter day today, we were in no hurry to leave
the warmth of bed. I read for a while and then figured it was time to get up
and get started. Showered and fed, we made plans for how to spend our last day
here. Did a load of washing and then packed the car and headed for Morialta
Conservation Park, this time heading in the right direction.
Using the GPS and Google maps we were able to navigate more
successfully to the car park closest to the first falls trail and find one of
the last bays. It was busy this morning.
The weather was much cooler and it was quite overcast and we
were looking out for rain.
We followed the clearly marked trail through the bush
admiring the looming rock faces, creek beds, some running with water and the
koalas and birds hidden amongst the trees. If you kept your eyes peeled you saw a lot
more than those just rushing on by.
Paul helped himself to the blackberries along the route before
we finally reached the falls. There was a little water flowing from the top,
but it wasn’t gushing over, still it was well worth the 30min trek.
We then turned back following the same path until we reached
the Giants Cave stair case which we climbed to admire the carved out stone mass
around us and on to take in the views further up.It was very impressive
We wound our way back down the hill and returned to the car
park, setting the GPS to the Lobethal Bierhaus Brewery. 30 min of twisting,
turning ups and downs and we finally pulled in and made our way inside. The
place was very busy with lunchtime trade. Paul ordered his usual, a tasting
paddle and then we made a decision on lunch.
The food was absolutely delicious and by all accounts the
beers were magnificent. Paul enjoyed talking to the owner/brewer, who gave him
a beer on the house and heavily discounted the twelve beers he came away with.
It was a great afternoon.
We wandered the streets of the town and checked out the very
cool Adelaide Hills Slot car Raceway with its giant Scalextric tracks and old
boys happily playing. We talked to the owner for a bit about his set up and the
model cars and bikes he had for sale before walking back down the road to the
car and heading home.
Back down the windy roads we drove. I was feeling car sick
from the constant movement and my stomach being thrown around. 45min later we
were stopping for groceries and then heading back to the park for a rest. I was
quite happy to zone out for a bit as I loaded the photos
and sorted the blog. Time disappeared super quick and before
I knew it, it was 630pm and Paul was thinking about dinner.
I set up the computer ready for the Wildcats first semi
final game against Cairns and we sat down to watch as we ate. The Cats were super impressive to start and really rattled Cairns and they never looked back from there, controlling the game for the entire match and running away easy 22 point winners. Watch out CAirns, Adelaide and Illawarra, we got this premiership.
