Day 315 - Thursday 9 November - Sailing into Sale

Day 315–
Thursday
9 November – NZ 88- Wildcats 84

Lakes Entrance – Sale
I feel like I am on a holding pattern, we have a destination to reach but time before we reach it. I guess travelling over old ground doesn’t help. I have this sense of been there, done that and little motivation to get out and do much, as we have done it all before! I don’t particularly enjoy this “killing time”, but it is a means to an end that will be awesome.
In the meantime, fast-forward through morning pack up, sort out and on the road by 9am. It was another glorious start to the day and a pleasure to be up and out to enjoy the blue.
The journey away from Lakes Entrance, was also one we did in April, when we left to drive over the Hotham Pass into Bright. That was a day that evokes plenty of great and scary memories, driving the van to its limit over the Blue Mountains.
After passing the turn we made towards Omeo, we continued on through Bairnsdale, glad to have flat, straight road for much of the run. On the far western horizon the blue shapes of the mountains loomed large. They basically ran parallel for the whole journey, as we made our way through Stratford and into Sale.
We drove the van into town and parked on a side street, so that we could go to Bunnings for a pond pump to use in place of the toilet one that gave up the ghost a while back. With that job done, we then made our way to the Sale Showgrounds, met “Princess” once again and paid for a night. There was no squeezing us in this time and we had the pick of our site.
We set up camp, following the tried and true routines before I had a look at the tyre pressure gauge. One of the readings was abnormally high so I needed to read the instruction manual to find a way to reset it, after we worked out it was giving a false reading. I didn’t have any luck.
It was then on to the toilet. Paul was able to replace the pump ok, but we soon found out that that isn’t the issue. Grr. I guess we are slowly eliminating the possibilities.
Just after midday, we walked into town to find a place with Fox Sports. The walk in is a couple of km’s and then we had to make our way out to the edge to find the pubs. The first we went to couldn’t help us, but they pointed us in the right direction and we ended up at the Star Hotel. With Fox running we had somewhere to return to for 5.30pm.
After ticking that job off the list, we stopped at Woollies for lunch things and then walked the couple of kms back to the van.  Our 10000 steps done for the day, we were now exhausted and starving. Time for lunch.
After filing the bellies, Paul spent time outside to work on the box attached to the back of the van. Over the past few weeks, the box has been slowly creeping forward and is impinging on the space needed for the bike. So much so, the bike’s left hand leaver is bent at some ridiculous angle.
While Paul was busy, I was lazy, hanging inside and chewing through 3 episodes of PLL. We did stop what we were doing at 2pm to wander over to the Greyhounds to see if they had Fox playing. We were glad to see they did, which would mean we wouldn’t have to walk too far to watch the basketball.
After returning to the van, I found my spot on the couch to continue watching the DVD while Paul continued working. It was 4.30pm by the time we were both done and ready for a lap and a stretch of the legs.
We made our way to the Greyhounds for 5.30pm and were pleasantly surprised that we could have our own personal TV with a couple of comfy couches, the best way to watch. We settled in watching the Cats play NZ. It was a better match than the one we watched in Wollongong and we saw plenty to be excited about.
While watching, we were able to order food from the restaurant and have it where we were sitting, happy days.
Unfortunately, the game didn’t go our way again with the team going down by 4 points. At least it wasn’t a big loss and now they get to play them again on Sunday in Perth.
Following the Perth game, the Cairns v Melbourne game was broadcast, so we decided to stay put and watch this game as well, giving us a bit of heads up for when we watch Melbourne play Sydney on Saturday. We were glad to see Melbourne walk away with a significant loss.
We walked back to the van just after 9.15pm and it wasn’t long before we were in bed. We were both still wound up, so spent some time dissecting the matches before eventually turning out the light and attempting to sleep.
