DAY 10
SATURDAY
7 January 2017 –Wildcats 80 v Sydney 74. YAY! 2 road wins in a row
Denmark
It was a slow start, quite happy to stay in bed and read for
a while. The weather had improved during the night with the wind and rain dying
off. Once out we took the dog and the boys to Poison Point for some fresh air.
Jack is pretty confident on his bike and fairly road aware, but OMG Darcy is a
different kettle of fish. He is powered by noise and needs to be reminded
constantly to “WATCH THE ROAD!!!!” I am surprised we all got back in one piece.
Brad was busy putting up his tent in the front yard. He was
determined to free camp after bringing all the gear. Paul. Laura and I left him
with the kids and made our way into town to check out the Demark Arts Festival.
There were plenty of wares for sale and lots of food,
including oliebollen, a dutch treat we remembered from our time in Tilburg, so
we all indulged. We also managed to find
a small wooden plaque with the saying “Not all who wander are lost” by J R R
Tolkien. This is our motto for our trip,
so we thought it fitting to have it with us. Thanks Jodie.
We made our way into town proper, running into my friend
Sarah’s Mum, before stopping at the pie shop for a spinach and ricotta
roll. Mum was working in the kitchen at
the Denmark River Sports Club, as there was a bowls tournament on, so we stopped
in and said hi and checked out the new facilities. They are very flash. We then
followed the Mokare walk back to home, passing Dad on his way out to golf even
though he still looked like crap.
Brad and Laura were off to Dinosaur world, so Paul and I had
some quiet time, before Mum returned and we began on the lemon meringue pie.
With the pastry needing some time to rest Paul and I walked beyond Poison Point
and onto the Bibbulmun Track for some time. It was an easy walk and quiet
enjoyable. The dog seemed happy to be out as well.
Everyone was home when we got back and it was time to set up
camp near Brad’s tent and enjoy some cheese and wine. In fact we enjoyed it too
much and it became dinner. Paul
entertained the kids playing hide and seek, which was more you kids go hide and
I will come and find you eventually if I remember, while Brad and I spent our
time rolling around like beached whales in our new air chairs . It was a great way to spend the evening.
