DAY 11
SUNDAY
8 January 2017 –
Denmark
Paul was up early, setting his rod and waking Brad so the
two of them could head out on the inlet in Dad’s boat. It was perfect weather for it. I stayed in
bed reading before reluctantly emerging, having brecky and taking the dog to
Poison Point and back.
By the time I was back the fishermen had returned, but with
nothing. Guess we have to come up with something else for dinner tonight. Brad
and Laura took off to the Hay River so the boys could fish. Paul and I decided
to walk along another section of the Bibbulmun Track that follows the inlet to
Little River. Here there were many large trees, boulders and pole homes. The
leaf litter is thick and I am concerned they will not survive a fire should is
come through that way.
We returned at midday for lunch, got changed and then jumped
in the back of Brad’s car for our wine tour. We started out of town at the
Yilgarnia Winery, which was recommended by Mum and Dad. Unfortunately we didn’t
rate it and felt like we were intruding and unwelcome. We figured it could only
get better.
Our next stop was Howard Park, one of the larger
conglomerates of the SW. There were plenty of wines on offer here, it was going
to get messy. They were having the Melbourne Shakespeare Company performing
“Much Ado About Nothing” tonight, shame we couldn’t do it. A bottle of muscat and moscato bought.
At Rockcliffe we were greeted by an extremely friendly
cellar door vendor, whom talked us through all of the wines. Things were getting a little loud with each
new sip of wine. There were plenty of
laughs and opinions. Brad enjoyed the sorbet they also sell at the door. Two bottles of rose bought.
The new kid on the block was Rising Star. We were met at the
car park by their pooch and the friendly Texan owners. Laura and I started with
the champagne. I thought we were loud before, but it certainly amped up here.
We enjoyed the chat and information shared before coming away with 3 bottles of
cab sav.
Our final winery was Singlefile. I wasn’t really in any need
for further wine, but chose to have a couple, while Laura and Paul tried some
of the reds. They both didn’t think the
wines were full bodied enough and were happy to move on. I got a photo of the
geese at the dam, then it was on to the Tavern.
Paul was wanting to try the Artisan Beers on tap, as
recommended by Gwen at Rising Star, who just happens to be the brewers sister
in law. The beers aren’t available at the brewery itself, only selected pubs,
including the Belgian Beer Café, for all of you in Perth. Paul had 4 beers on a
tasting plate and he enjoyed them all. Laura thought the beers were better than
the wines she had tasted. She has decided she needs to create her own blog “
