DAY 17
SATURDAY
14 January 2017 – Wildcats
84 v Adelaide 95
Hopetoun – Munglinup - Esperance
Ahh.. Waking to the rolling surf and the wind rattling the
van. Starting to feel more relaxed.
We had breakfast and were off for our morning walk along the
beach and onto the jetty to watch various boats launch and fathers try their
luck fishing for herring with their kids.
I sat in a beach shelter for a while just taking in the
serenity of the morning. I was also looking for dolphins and seals, but none
appeared while I was watching. Paul and I returned to our van, set it up for
the drive and began the next part of our journey. Two and a half hours to
Esperance.
The journey was a fairly easy one, with most of the traffic
heading in the opposite direction. Plenty of holiday makers heading home. We
passed a couple of places that had been recommended as places to stay, Mason
Bay and Munglinup Beach. Not this time, but definitely on the list.
By 12 we had made it into Esperance and were settled at the
Sea Front Caravan Park. Probably not the cheapest joint in town, but that’s ok.
We set our van in its place, after unhitching the trailer and car and then it
was time for lunch before taking the car into town and checking it all out.
We did a food shop and then parked at the front and walked
along the sea front watching the kids play in the water and the sail boats
tackle the breeze. All watched over by the large ships parked at the port
waiting to be filled with their load.
When we returned to the van we realised we had sprung a
leak. Water was pooling inside the van and dripping from around the back. Grr.
After mopping it all up and Paul doing some investigating we were none the
wiser for the cause. An issue to be tackled on another day.
To take our mind off the running water, we took off in the
car again, this time heading to the Pink Lake, which wasn’t very pink, more a
mauvey grey kind of insipid colour. We
continued to follow the Pink Road around until Paul saw a sign for a brewery.
He must a sixth sense for these things.
We made our way to the Lucky Bay Brewery where Paul tried a tasting
paddle of 6 of their beers and by all accounts they were all very good.
We wound our way home, following streets we had not
traveled, back into the town centre and returning to our van. The inside was
at least still dry and the outside, while still dripping, was not as constant.
I sat on the computer for a bit, working through the photos, before making
dinner and then it was down to the pavilion to try our luck with the internet
and watch the Wildcats play Adelaide. Hmm…Maybe not. The internet coverage was
pretty poor and the connection was taking forever, which was more frustrating
than anything. We stuck it out til half time before returning to the van and
getting the updates via my phone internet instead. I can see this being the
biggest gripe of the trip. With limited download on my phone, we are going to
have to ration out the access.
The cat’s match didn’t go to plan, loosing the plot in the
last. Bum. We then decided it was time to call it a night.
This is such a great resource that you are providing and you give it away for free. I love seeing websites that understand the value of providing a quality resource for free. It is the old what goes around comes around routine.
