Day 219
Friday
4 August 2017 –
Maryborough – Hervey Bay
I was awake just after 7am and after laying there lazily, I
read my book. At 8.30am we finally decided to get up and get moving. Shower and
breakfast out of the way and we were on the road at 10am.
We made our way towards the Whale Bay Marina, parking and
then doing a wander through. We wanted to check where our tour boat would leave
from tomorrow and once we had the required information we wandered through the
shops. I admired the photos of one photographer and stood around having a chat
with her for a bit.
We returned to the car and drove to the esplanade parking
again and beginning our morning walk along the 1.2km Urangan Pier. From the
pier we had good views to Fraser Island that sits quite close to the shore.
There were plenty of fishermen out enjoying the morning, but not catching much
on the outgoing tide.
We watched the small crabs scurrying about below weary of
the blowfish after a quick meal. The patterns in the sand also had me
fascinated.
We walked along the esplanade for a good distance before
returning to the car, driving further along the strip and finding a picnic
table to have our lunch and enjoy the water view.
Back into the car when lunch was done, we drove out to
Harvey Norman to check for a camera filter, lucky for me they had what I was
looking for and at a very reduced price.
From there we returned to the esplanade in Scarness and
began our walking again. I ducked in under a jetty to take some photos before
we found a pub to have a drink at. We enjoyed watching life pass us by, before
returning to the path and walking back to the car.
I had Paul stop briefly so I could take a photo of a piece
of art in the middle of a roundabout. Hervey Bay is known for whales and there
are large whale sculptures of wood and metal in a few spots around town that of
course took my fancy.
After snapping away at two different spots, we did a quick
stop at Coles and then made our way home for a relaxing afternoon. Paul watched
a Kevin McLeod DVD while I sorted today’s photos. Slowly the sun disappeared on
the day with coloured light being splashed through the van.
I rang Mum to see that Dad got off alright and to check and
make sure she and Yogi were doing ok. We got dinner under control and ate shortly
after before thinking about needed things for tomorrow’s day trip and into bed
ready for an early one tomorrow.
