Day 221
Sunday
6 August 2017 – Big Happy 30th Birthday wishes to
Jaden.
Finished the book “The Girl Behind The Lens” By Tanya Farrelly. It was certainly a very
quick and easy book to get through but I didn’t think it was brilliant and the
ending left a lot to be desired.
Began “The Missing Ones” by Patricia Gibney. I feel like I
have stepped in to an Inspector Morse tele drama. I will see how this one pans
out.
Maryborough – Tin Can Bay
I was awake at 6.30am, having slept well, but still tired.
After going to the loo, I returned to bed to read my book. Paul got out at
7.45am and went for a shower, while I got out and sorted. We had breakfast and
then I was off for a wash and returned with Paul ready to put on the car.
With everything loaded, we were on the road at 9am and
making our way to Tin Can Bay only an hour away. We had to pass through
Maryborough once again and then follow the green boards. It was quite overcast
and the rain had obviously passed through various places, leaving a trail of
wet ground.
At 10am we reached the outskirts of the small seaside
peninsula. A “RV Friendly Town” sign greeted us as we drove the main street,
but it was far from RV friendly. Everywhere we looked there were no camping
signs. We pulled up on a grassy verge along the waterfront and decided to
explore the town on foot. We checked out
the small marina on the inlet before moving along the opposite side of the
peninsula and up along the esplanade checking out the boats moored in the fast
retreating water.
We cut back into town, stopping at the bakery so Paul could
get a pie and then we continued our walk through suburbia before returning to
the car. I dumped my jumper and grabbed my sunnies and a banana before we
walked on to a seafood wholesaler. We checked their range but nothing was cheap
so we left empty handed
Once back at the van, we moved on to the golf course we had
passed along the way. Paul enquired about playing and was told he could so from
1.30pm. We drove back towards the water, finding a parking space amongst the
trees on the water’s edge. We sat back and enjoyed the tranquillity of the
space. I continued to read my book and write up the blog pages, watching people
walk by along the waterfront.
I made lunch and we ate before I returned to my book. Just
after 1pm we moved on. We located the local Dump Point which helps give the
town its RV status and emptied the on board loo. As far as we are concerned a dump point alone
does not make for an RV friendly stay.
We drove on to the golf course once again, Paul grabbed his
clubs and changed and then off we went for a walk in the sun. I was determined
to walk 1000 steps for each hole and Paul helped me along nicely with many a
wayward shot. It was more a game of frustration than golf.
We had plenty of long waits, as the groups in front were
bottle necked. Paul was able to speak to Jaden and wish him a happy birthday
and find out how his video and single launch went during his 30th
birthday celebrations last night. He said all went really well and his song
“Lone Ranger” was well received.
We finished up the round, Paul improving on the final few
holes and me completing my challenge. We returned to the car and navigated
towards a rest stop about 30km out of town. The grey clouds were beginning to
gather and it wasn’t long before we had lightning flashes and then rain.
We missed out rest stop and Paul decided he would prefer to
head back to a space he had seen on the way so we did a U turn in the rain and
drove back past the initial rest stop behind a small store and on to a picnic
area amongst the pines. It was a perfect spot for an overnight stay.
We set ourselves up for the evening and then sat back
reading while listening to the rain fall and the thunder tumble across the sky.
I went through the small number of photos I had taken today and backed
everything up. Before dragging out the caravan books and rest stops to make a
decision on the next few days. Tomorrow we would be on the Sunshine Coast!
We prepared an early dinner and were all washed and packed away by 6pm. I then spent time loading things on the net though had to be weary of the data I was using on my phone, I was chewing through it this first week of August.
