Day 238
Wednesday
23 August 2017
Bonogin – Robina – Currumbin – Kirra – Snapper Rocks – Point
Danger – Tweed Heads – Burleigh
We woke to find Kirsty had gone to work despite thinking she
might take a sickie and join us all today touring around. Once we were up and
sorted, we went for a walk taking the street as far as it would go and past
some obviously well to do homes hidden in the forest.
Once back, I did some work on the computer as well as saying
hello to Apache and Spotty the horses. Once Scott was organised we headed into
Robina Town shopping centre, which is massive like Joondalup and found a dim
sum to have brunch.
We sat about eating and enjoying the chit chat before making
our way towards the Burleigh coast, Scott pointing out different bits relevant
to the time he has spent here.
We drove the coast road to Currumbin, where we stopped to
check out the beach and the view back up the Gold Coast strip. We took time to
check out the bronze statue of the bather and passed Elephant Rock Lookout where
the TV show Sunrise often films from on ANZAC day.
We followed the road on towards Kirra Beach stopping at a lookout that provided a great view over the beach. Kirra is apparently a great surf location.

A short drive on and we were at Snapper Rocks, where Rip Curl
Pro tournaments are held. We sat on a bench watching the surfers taking
advantage of the waves before clambering out over the rocks, no easy feat for
me with no shoes on, to get a close look of the water and Froggy rock.
The little bit of walking done, we returned to the car and
on to Point Danger lookout. This spot is at the border of Queensland and New
South Wales and we were able to stand with one foot in each camp.
We watched out over the water, seeing the distant plume of
whale spray and as group made its way along the water highway. Closer to us
were bearded dragons sunning themselves while lazily hanging to the rocks.
We returned to the car and did a drive through the NSW town
of Tweed Heads, where Scott had lived and then returned to Burleigh. We did a
drive by the Burleigh Brewing Co, but they weren’t open for another hour, so we
returned to the beach side looking for a place sit and have a drink. We
eventually found the Crab Pot, ordered up and enjoyed.
While there Dad rang from Salzburg, he was readying himself
for a train trip on to Munich. It sounds like he is having a terrific time.
Scott was a bit thrown by the fact that his ex-fiancée happened to be in the
bar as he hadn’t seen her since it was all broken off by her, so with one drink
done we high tailed out of there and returned to Burleigh Brewing.
The brewery was quite busy even though it had only just
opened. Paul charmed the barman John, ordered his tasting paddle and sat down
to review. Scott did the same and we proceeded to chat, enjoying the atmosphere
of the brew-pub.
Having tasted the beers, the boys enjoyed a glass of their
choice before we thought about moving on. Scott left his details with John,
hoping to get some performance time and Paul told them we would be back for a
growler over the weekend.
Back in the car, it was time to head home. We had the radio
tuned to 91.7FM as Scott’s first single “Kialena Lights” with his band “The
Blueberrys” was to feature on the new music segment at 4.30pm. ("Do yourself a favour," as the famous Molly Meldrum would say and pick this up on itunes, you wont regret it and you will be helping out a great mate!) We waited
anxiously, listening to the DJ as we drove along before eventually it was
announced and the song was played. Plenty of superlatives were thrown out by
the DJ and his sidekick and there were smiles and praise all round in the car.
We retuned home after a quick stop and then it was time for
us to get sorted and have dinner. Kirsty and Scott were off to the top house
for dinner for Kirsty’s mum’s birthday while we were off to V Max cinema in
Robina, courtesy of Scott and Kirsty, who couldn’t attend the premiere due to
the birthday.
Paul went off to help Scott feed the horses while I did the
cook up and then we ate and headed just after 6pm. We arrived just before the
starting time of 6.30pm, signed in and then wandered into the plush cinema,
choosing a spot and settling in to watch the Tome Cruise movie “American Made”.
It was an entertaining drama, that gave me a background to the goings on in
central America and of course the USA’s heavy involvement behind the scenes.
At 8.30pm it was all over and we made our way back to home.
The roads were extremely dark and Paul had to ensure he handled them with a
fair degree of caution. I was glad when we finally pulled in and we could crawl
up into bed.
