Day 227
Saturday
12 August 2017 – Started “The Stolen Ones” by Patricia
Gibney. This is the follow up novel to the one I have just completed with the
same core character group. It will be interesting to see what the author
creates this time.
Eumundi – Noosaville – Coolum Beach – Maroochydore – Nambour
– Yandina - Cooroy
For some reason 6.30am seems to be the wake up call of late.
After going to the loo I returned to bed to read my book for an hour and then
finally got out and motivated.
Just after 9.00am we took off for Noosaville and the local
Rivers store for Paul to pick up some needed clothing. After our quick stop, we
drove down the coast tow Coolum. For much of the drive you don’t have a view of
the coast, as the road doesn’t always hug the coast. There are plenty of
housing estates on the ocean side of the main drag for those with money to
burn.
Once at Coolum Beach, we parked and walked the strip,
enjoying the glorious sun once again. We watched the young grommets catching
the small waves as we walked to the lookout. Two sea eagles were circling, one
successfully plucked a fish and took flight up the coast to find somewhere to
eat it uninterrupted.
We returned to the car and continued our coastal drive south
on to Maroochydore. We parked at the same shopping centre as last night and
walked out along the Maroochy River where the parklands were overrun with kids
birthday parties. From this area, we could also see the controversial sea wall
project that is currently under construction.
We double backed and checked out some further areas of the
town and river area before stopping at Woollies for food. We had a Uh huh
moment as we watched tiny brown birds feasting of the lettuces in the fresh
food section. Mmmm…
We completed our shop and then returned to the car, driving
down Bradman Ave and finding a park bench along the river to stop and have our
lunch as we enjoyed the view and the lorikeets that were after the nectar in
the flowers of the gum trees.
After lunch, we took the opportunity to walk further along
the river and take in the sights. There were plenty of people on the water and
fishing making the most of the winter day, 29°C, tough here at this time of the
year. Where would you rather be, not back home in Perth with its rubbish
weather this weekend!
We walked across a footbridge and on to an island for a
quick walk around. There was an awesome tree that kids were scurrying over, it
created an enclosed canopy of interweaved branches blocking the sunlight.
We continued our walk on the mainland, past a seaplane and
on to the private fishing boxes, before turning around and making the trek back
towards the car. We drove on to Nambour and The Basement bar that we visited
yesterday. Paul was wanting to check on the Your Mates Brewing “Larry Can” launch
and fill up the squealers he had with him. Today we were able to chat to the
two brewers and share stories of our travels and brewery visits.
With the bottles filled, we made our way north to Yandina,
where we stopped in at The Ginger Factory where Buderim Ginger is produced.
They offer tours but we were only interested in checking out the wares and the
lovely gardens.
After we bought our ginger products, we crossed the road to
the nut and chocolate factory where we picked up some further goodies before
making our way towards Cooroy. Paul was eager to get back to Copperhead
Restaurant Brewery and try their beers.
The place was quite busy which was good to see, as it has
only been open since Tuesday. We caught the owner who happily talked up his beers.
They only had two to try as the other four had sold out already. I had a text conversation with Dad as we sat
there.
At 4pm we returned to the van, unpacked all our goodies and
then sat eating cheese and dip as Paul wrote his review and I had a look at our
onward journey for the next week before getting into the photos and blog.
The day slipped away and before I knew it it was black. It gets dark fast here , it was only 6pm! At 6.30pm we made our way to the Imperial Hotel so that I could take a FaceTime Call from Cathy. We set up at the pub, using their wifi. Unfortunately the facetime call didn't work, so we had to revert to regular phone calls. Cathy called so I could talk to Izzy at her surprise retirement party. It was terrific to speak to both of them and Izzy was obviously well surprised!.
We hung out at the pub while I continued to take advantage of the free wifi and load on all that I could in the time that I had.
We eventually called it and made our way back home ready to head to bed and our books once again.
