Day 337 - Friday 1 December - last month of travels

Day 337
Friday 1 December – NZ Breakers 73 v Wildcats 89

Moana – Willunga – McLaren Vale – Morphett Vale

The wild and woolly weather came and went during the night, at times rocking the van about and others just throwing down heavy rain. I managed to sleep through until 8am and then read for the 45min before we both got out.
Paul went off for a shower, while I set out breakfast and then turned on my phone data, as a new allowance of gb was granted for the new month, happy days. I proceeded to complete a few tasks, as I ate and then I was off for my shower too. By the time I returned, Paul was ready to head out and play golf.
I had located Willunga Public Golf Course yesterday, the closest to Moana and we made our way 20 km down the road and into the old town. The streets were lined with old stone homes and there was quite a strong country character to the place. This feeling didn’t stop with the golf course either, which was one of the more picturesque ones we have walked around.
Paul paid the green fees and was sent to the front nine, where we started out walk. It was still cold and grey outside, but the rain had held off this morning, so it was quite a pleasant way to spend our time. We did find the course quite slow however. We were able to leap frog 2 groups of 2, but by the 7th, we had caught up with a group of 4 hackers; 3 old ducks, who obviously thought the idea was to take as many shots as possible and a bloke walking his 2 dogs at the same time as playing. What made it worse was they quite clearly saw that we were a solo player who knew how to play, could play and was right on their tail and they refused to acknowledge and let us pass. Needless to say the final 2 and a bit holes were drawn out and agonisingly frustrating.
We finally finished up at midday and made our way home ready to have a rest and some lunch. The rain began to spit again, but it didn’t hang around for long. I again did some work on the net, including picking up 36ers v NZ tickets for 10 December, sharing the data load between my phone and the free wifi. When I was done, Paul was ready to head out again.
We returned to McLaren Vale, so that Paul could head out to two breweries; Goodiesons and Vale. Both of these places we visited when we were here in February, but this was Pre beer reviewing, so of course we had to return.
First up was Goodiesons. While this place is on the small scale, it was quite busy. Cycling tours were stopping in for tastings and even the Ashes cricket, which starts here tomorrow, had people out on tastings before the big day. We chatted with the brewer, Paul went about his tastings and I took photos, all while we watched the various patrons come and go.
Next up was Vale Brewing. This brewery doesn’t have a cellar door, instead you have to visit Red Poles, a winery come art gallery. This makes it hard to get enough info for a story, but one of the Red Pole managers filled us in as best she could, including the info about the recent takeover by Bickford cordials. Paul again tasted the beers, wrote his notes and then we made our way home for 4pm.
Yet again, we didn’t stay put for long, leaving 20min later for the Woodcroft Tavern in McLaren Vale where we knew we would be able to watch the Wildcats take on NZ. Once there, the bar staff were able to accommodate us in the TAB room, tuning in one of the screens to Fox503. We settled in at a table among all the gamblers and sad drunks. It was a contrast to the last time we were here and we had the room almost to ourselves.
We watched the first quarter, then ordered dinner. The second half showed signs of a good game, with play being fairly even. We ate during the break and into the 3rd, continuing to enjoy what we were seeing, but it was the 4th where the Cats shone and pulled away to a convincing 16 point win.
We left as soon as it was all over, returning to our van for 7pm. We donned the wet weather gear and made it out for our evening walk. We followed the Beach path a fair distance before heading into the suburbs, past the Seaford shops and then making our way back just over an hour later.ma good walk to finish off the day.
Once back, Paul was straight to  bed to read, while I wrote up the blog before doing the same.
