Day 340
Monday 4 December
Moana – Adelaide
Paul had woken during the night with a sore neck, needing som pain relief and a ru down with volataren. By the time morning arrived, he has decided he needed a chiropractor, so I was on to my phone locating someone close by. We then stayed in bed reading before finally crawling out.
After breakfast, I left Paul to phone for an appointment while I booked in for the week and then went for a shower.
When I returned, we gathered our things and drove to Seaford for his 10am appointment. Paul completed the mountain of paperwork and was then lead away. I waited in reception until he was all done, which was some time later.
From the chiropractor office, we drove to the Seaford train station. The parking was chockas, so we had to go back to the train station and walk across. We missed the train by seconds, but another left 15min later and we settled in for the 50 train ride through the coastal towns.
It was midday by the time we surfaced in Adelaide and we joined the sea of people, most of whom were heading to Adelaide Oval for day 3 of the Ashes. We followed suit, heading across the traffic bridge to the forecourt of the oval where there was plenty going on.
We picked up a couple of thunder sticks and proceeded to walk around the boundary of the oval checking out the sculptures, the stands and the fashion choices. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to walk the complete boundary, so we returned the way we had come, but this time took the pedestrian bridge over the Torrens.
Before reaching the bridge we noticed a fenced off area and many dignitaries in suits. It appeared a new bronze statue of some cricketing figure was to be unveiled, but for the time being it was shrouded by a black sheet. I guess we will find out at sometime who the figure is underneath.
We felt like fish swimming upstream as we made our way over the pedestrian bridge and back into the CBD. We followed through the smaller alleys, making our way to Lady Burra Brewhouse, but we were too early, so we continued to walk towards Chinatown in search of a sushi train for lunch.
We found one, but it was crowded with office staff on their lunch break. We hung around until there was a spot free anyway. Once seated, we watched the plates wiz past carrying all sorts of delights, both of us grabbing at the coloured plates and loading up the bench in front of us. It didn’t take us long to become full and we paid up and left the space free for the next customers.
When we had been walking the bridge to the cricket, Paul was given some vouchers for free drinks at a choice of 3 places, we located the closest one, Spahetti Western, and stopped in to use the vouchers. Paul used both to try two beers they had on tap. As it turns out the two he could have were contract brewed by Vale Brewing, so he was happy to sit in and try them out.
By the time we were done, it was time to head to Lady Burra Brewhouse. We arrived just after 2, Paul spoke to the bar staff gathering info about the venue and then tried the beers. I was just glad the pub had free wifi and I was able to load up the blog and begin to add all of Paul’s reviews and then go back and start adding the photos to go with it. I have given up on even thinking about adding anything to Facebook, it will have to wait until we are home, if I can be bothered by then or have the time.
We were invited to check out the brewhouse with the brewer. They were busy brewing a pale ale and the smell permeating from the kettle was intense. I felt like I was standing inside a giant loaf of grainy bread.
I wasn’t finished with the loading of the photos, so we stayed for another beer, I had to twist his arm. I didn’t get it all finished, but was happy to get as far as I did. We then loaded up our things and made for the train station. We boarded the 420pm train which was packed and then proceeded to stand for the 50 train ride home.
We stopped in at the shop for oyster ingredients and then drove to the local fish n chippy for 2 dozen oysters for $29. We made it back to the van for 530pm, exhausted after our long day.
I got straight into loading the photos from our day out, while Paul read his book. When I was all done, I began preparing our oyster dinner and then we ate.
We took some more time to relax. Paul was feeling tired after not sleeping last night with his sore neck. I did manage to drag him out for a brief walk to the top of the hill. We sat on the park bench watching the sun descend. It was such a different sunset to those of the past few days, with very little cloud cover. The sun was a giant, golden ball that was making everything shimmer. We talked about how awesome our trip has been, our desire to just start it all over again and all the work we have ahead of us when we finally reach home. This has just been one incredible trip, everything we both could have imagined and so much more.
We returned to the van at 815pm. A high school group has invaded the park, with the kids staying in 9 tents the next row over. I imagine they could be quite noisy tonight and Paul has threatened to slash their ropes should they keep him awake. They are making noise outside the van as I type this now. Paul has already gone to bed to read, while I finish this and keep check of the United v Hawks game. Tomorrow we are off to the zoo to check out the pandas, I can’t wait.
