Day 356
Wednesday 20 December
Denmark – Albany
7.45am, a sleep in! We wandered down to the house to hang
out and have breakfast before getting organised for the day. After a shower, we
returned to the van to pack up what we needed for Albany and then we were off.
We had a fair bit that we needed to get done, so we planned out our attack on
the way in, to make the most of the time we had.
Our first stop was a quick one, Bunnings for a pot and then
it was onto the Auto One to collect the replacement tyre sensor, a 5 minute job.
We then made our way to Officeworks to pick up Mum’s birthday present, a new
phone from all of us. We had done our research, so knew what we were after and
thankfully they had one in stock.
Woolworths was up next for the Christmas food shop. We whizzed
around the aisles grabbing what was needed from the shelves, slowly ticking off
all of the items. We shoved the bags where they would fit on the backseat of
the car, before walking across the road to a small mobile phone shop to
purchase a case and screen protector for the present.
We had picked up a carton of beer for the tow truck company
guys who came to our rescue and we took that down to the wool store to leave it
with them and wish them a Merry Christmas. We then drove down to the park by
the Amity and found a park bench to sit at and have our lunch. For a change it
was actually quite a lovely day in Albany.
We drove up into town and parked needing to kill an hour
before heading to Wilsons Brewery. We went in search of Tanglehead Brewery
which has always been inside the White Star Hotel. As it turns out, it is no
longer under this label and now goes by Albany Brewing Company.
There wasn’t much happening in the brewery unfortunately.
The barmaid gave Paul some information and a taste of the brews, but it really wasn’t
much to write home about. When he was done, we took off for a walk around the
block, making it back for the expiry of the parking meter.
With not much else to do, we decided to head on to Wilsons
Brewery early, but it didn’t matter as Rob and Matt were both there waiting for
us. Turns out Rob had been following us online and was excited to see us. We
sat chatting about the brewery, as they poured beers into Paul.
We did a full tour of the brewery that was built from
scratch by Matt, a very impressive feat. There were plenty of workers happily
going about their tasks, including hand labelling the bottles and cartons.
We made our way back to the bar and Paul had a few of his
squealers filled for free. He was also given a couple of hats and stubby
holders to take away. A great afternoon’s adventure.
We returned to the highway, making it back just before 4pm.
It was such a beautiful afternoon that Paul decided he would go fishing at the
Hay River. I got busy unpacking the car and finding places to store things.
We sat outside for a bit enjoying a drink and chatting,
before the others went off to start organising the tree and dinner. I stayed in
the van to wrap some presents and watch an episode of A Place to Call Home,
before being called by Jack to come and help with the tree.
I made my way to the house to hang out with the others and
help put up some of the decorations. The Buble Christmas carols playing loud in
the background. The kids were fed and turfed outside for a run around.
Paul returned home with a couple of fish and plenty of
bites. Once he was in the house, we sat down to dinner, while the boys attacked
each other in the bath. When we were done and the boys were dressed for bed, we
turned on the Christmas lights and took some photos, before they went to bed.
