Day 343 - Thursday 7 December - Rain, wine and lazing

Day 343
Thursday 7 December –
 Moana – McLaren Vale

The dark clouds and rain came back today after two beautiful blue sky days. I had heard the patter of rain on the roof top during the early hours and it continued through to wake up time, 830am. Paul got out, but I stayed in bed reading until 9am. We had breakfast together and then Paul had to run to the chiropractor. I went for my shower, cleaned the van and then sat going through things on the blog.
Once he was back we began organising our day, but the Cheryl rang to say Martyn wasn’t up to our lunch, a shame,  but couldn’t be helped. So with our plans scrapped, we hastily made knew plans, so that we didn’t waste the day ahead.
We were going to be having lunch in McLaren Vale, so we figured we may as well still head there and do some wine tasting. I wanted to get back to d’Arenberg Wines and check out the cube as well as pick up some more bottles, so it was decided we would head there first.
We passed by all the leafy green vines and the many cellar doors before parking and making our way to the cellar door. The cube was unfortunately still not finished, though we found out later, it’s opening is on Saturday. We tried the range of whites, reds and fortified before picking up a number of bottles to take away with us. I was quite tipsy by the end of that run through, but was keen to try some more.
We drove down the road to Angove Winery, somewhere we didn’t check out when we were here in  February. The cellar door was particularly quiet compared to where we had just come from, but it was warm and inviting all the same. I again tried the white and fortified and Paul tried the reds. We again bought a couple and then made our into the town centre in search of food.
Oscars restaurant looked particularly good, so we stopped, found a table and then ordered lunch. I was starving, so everything on the list was sounding appealing. We eventually made our shared selection and then enjoyed what was delivered.
We watched the rain come down heavy as we ate, but it eased off as we finished up and we decided we would walk the street. Unfortunately by the time we made it outside, it had started to rain once more and we were forced to take refuge in the car. With that thwarted, we made our way back to the van instead.
With our full bellies, we were in the grips of a food coma, so it was time for an afternoon siesta. I spent time going through my photos and the blog, while Paul read before dozing. We did eventually take a look at our pedometers and were disgusted to see 4000 steps staring at us, so the walking shoes went on and we took off along the beach path. We were buffeted by the strong sea breeze, but there was no rain, which was a bonus.
We walked further than we have along the path, reaching a gazebo on the point, before making our way back. At first we dropped back into the suburb, following new streets, but in the end we completed a big square and returned to the Beach path. We were much happier with the 13000 steps.
We still were t particularly hungry, so I cooked up some scramble eggs and then I sat on the bed watching another DVD episode while Paul read. At 915pm, we finally crawled into bed.
