Day 344 - Friday 8 December - Last of The Adelaide breweries

Day 344
Friday 8 December – Wildcats 88  v Adelaide 79
 Moana – Noarlunga – Adelaide

When we woke this morning, we spent some time reading before eventually deciding to get out and on with our day. We had breakfast and showers and by 915am we were ready to head out. Our first stop was the Colonnades shopping centre in Noarlunga. We have avoided the thought of Christmas until this point, but we figured we better get some gifts under our belt before we head back home and don’t get the chance.
We were lucky that the car park was fairly quiet and we were able to slip straight in to a spot and begin the shopping adventure. We must have timed it fairly well, as the shops were also easy to navigate around and we didn’t have to wait at checkouts.
We completed a first run through, dumping things in the car and noticing that the car park was now more congested and when we returned to the centre for a wander, we were now having to dodge the hoards. Kmart was just silly, with the checkout line sneaking away 50m, impressing Paul no end.
We made our way back to the car for 11am and continued our journey north, heading for Big Shed Brewing in the inner the suburbs of Adelaide.
We arrived 15min early, so did a walk of the block, returning for the midday opening. Craig, one of the owners, was busy with an interview for Lonely Planet, so Paul tried the beers first, before finally getting his time to chat. We shown through the small operation, before we sat down to a delicious burger lunch.
When we finished our lunch, we made our way a short distance across town to Pirate Life Brewing, where we met Ed in the bar who was only too happy to talk up the brewery, give the low down on the recent take over and of course start Paul on the beers and they weren’t sample size. We were given the full brewery tour treatment, being shown through their operation and being told about the massive expansion that will be happening next year at a different site.
We returned to the tasting room where Paul continued to sample the beers, most of them 500ml cans, that had him well merry in the end. We chatted to other punters, the bar staff and one of the brewers, who turned out to once be a worker at Margaret River Chocolate Factory.
I called time on our visit at 430pm, wary of the afternoon traffic. Paul was given some beers for the Road and a couple of glasses and then I took the keys and navigated us through the traffic snarl that was the Friday afternoon commute. We eventually made it back as the clock turned over 530pm.
We removed all of our shopping from earlier and stashed what we could and then took time to just chill. The internet was having a purple patch, so I loaded what I could while it was behaving. I eventually started dinner, as Paul began the usual Friday ring around, catching up with a few different people.
We ate, did dishes and then made our way out for a walk along the beach path as the sun reached the horizon and slowly melted away streaking the sky with vibrant colours. I organised with Cheryl to meet for coffee tomorrow afternoon, which meant we could spend the morning doing whatever, probably golf and a bit more shopping.
We returned to the van for 9am, eager to keep an eye on the Wildcats v Adelaide match. I wrote up the blog while continually looking for score updates. I then trawled through today’s photos, ready to add to Paul’s reviews. The cats had a cracker of a start to the match and maintained the distance in the second, but the third saw Adelaide come out strong and close the gap to a couple of scoring shots. The fourth remained tight for the first 5min and the cats pulled away once again and remained in the lead til the end. I finally joined Paul, who was off dozing already, read my book for a short bit and then turned out the light.
