Day 248
Saturday
2 September 2017 –
Bonogin – Murwillumbah –Tumbulgum
We spent the morning reading our books before finally
getting out of bed and having breakfast. We hung out in the van until we saw
movement from Kirsty, who was out feeding the horses. We wandered around the
yard. Paul spoke to Scott about the run down for the day while I was busy
cleaning.
We left Kirsty to her riding lesson, she instructs others in
equestrian on this property in her own arena. We did a walk to the café and
back to let Scott sort out the day. One we were back, we had a plan. Kirsty had
bought a reclining chair for her dad for Fathers’ Day and the three of us were
going to pick it up for her.
We piled into the jeep with the trailer on the back and made
our way to Murwillumbah a town that is over the border and about an hour away.
We joined the traffic heading out of Brisbane and onto the coast for the long weekend.
It was worse than midweek traffic and we stuck in a crawl for quite a length of
time.
As we drove, Scott pointed out various features including
the Mount Warning that rises quite dramatically in the hinterland. We arrived
at our destination at 11.45am and the boys collected the chair from the back
yard of the seller and then skilfully brought it down the steep hill to the
trailer, secured it and we were off.
Scott had mentioned an old pub in Tumbulgum that he wanted
to take us to, so we drove about 20min to this quiet spot on the river and
joined the other bikers who were out enjoying the gorgeous day.
We ordered a meal and then sat chatting as we waited for our
food to arrive. The pub was much like others we have seen on our travels,
quaint and inviting and with great food.
When we had finished up we were back in the car and
returning to Bonogin. We did a quick food stop for required ingredients for our
steamboat dinner and then made it back to Kirsty who was excited to see the
chair.
We left Scott and Kirsty to it and went for another walk again.
After making it to the café we returned via the top house where we dropped in
to see John and say goodbye. Nancy and Anthony returned from the markets so we
were also able to say goodbye to them as well.
We then made our way back to our patch and joined Scott
outside preparing the food for our dinner.
Kirsty joined us outside and we sat about chatting as the
boys fired up the steamboat and the fire pit.
Nelly, one of Kirsty’s friends
who agists a horse at the property, also joined us for dinner. It was a fun
evening with too much to drink and lots to chat about.
Nelly, left us early as she had an early morning shift, but
we continued to carry on sitting around the fire pit trying to stay warm,
though the alcohol was doing a pretty good job.
We shifted inside to watch some Youtube comedian clips and
of course listen to some Beach Boys songs, singing loudly and enjoying the
company of great friends.
The night however had to come to an end.
