Day 246
Thursday
31 August 2017 –
Bonogin – Brisbane – Salisbury - Surfers Paradise
Everything was a little slow this morning. I didn’t think I
had had too much too alcohol last night but obviously it was enough to leave me
a little slow. I did read for a little while, but couldn’t keep the eyes open,
so I put the ipad away and went back to sleep again.
We got up at 9am, did the usual bits before Paul and Scott
when trekking through the paddocks to the creek to put in the yabbie nets.
Scott took us for a ride around the property as he went to feed the horses.
Once we were back we packed the car, said goodbye and began
our journey to Southbank in Brisbane. The journey took us just over an hour and
thankfully the GPS directed easily to a parking area and we popped out in the
centre of South Bank.
We wandered down to the river and walked along the front
before crossing the bridge again and into Brisbane city. We did a large lap
around the city streets taking in the architecture before we returned to the mall
and found something for lunch. It was crazy with workers all attempting to fill
their bellies.
Once done, we beat a hasty retreat and continued on our way
through the city. We passed a number of regal looking buildings made of the
creamy limestone that we have become accustomed to seeing in capital cities.
We walked through the outskirts of the botanical gardens and
Paul rang Mary to check out things at home. We then crossed back over another
bridge to South Bank once again and wandered back along the Brisbane River.
We returned to the car so that Paul could change into his beer shirt and then we walked the 1km to Brisbane Brewhouse where Paul tried out the beers they had on offer before trying the 8 Wired collection as well.
We made our way back to the car, paid the $25 for parking! and
into the traffic heading for Ballistic Beer Co in Salisbury 20min away. We
arrived just as it was opening at 4pm and made ourselves at home inside the
large shed. Paul collected the first of two tasting paddles and set about doing
his thing while I waited patiently. As has become his way, he goes off to talk
to other punters to get their views as well so I was left to surf around on my
phone.
We chatted to the Brewer Evan as Paul had a couple of
growlers filled and then I bundled him into the car, took the keys and followed
the GPS to Surfers Paradise. The traffic had now amped up with Brisbanites
heading home or off on holiday for the long weekend.
We missed a few turns along the way, which pushed our
arrival time out a little. The night entered quickly and we were driving in the
dark for the last 20min of the trip before entering the bright lights of
Surfers Paradise.
I found a place to park below the Hilton and then we took
off for the Q1 building once again. The streets were busy with tourists out
enjoying the early evening and finding a feed at one of the many restaurants.
We arrived at the Q1 building at 6.33pm to be told the last
lift went up at 6.30pm Argh. Feeling unimpressed, we stomped back to the car,
paid the $9 for our 20min of parking and began the trek home.
We finally made it at 7.15pm and were starving, so it was a
quick cook up before Paul went off to join Scott inside ready for the Japan v
Socceroos match. I stayed in the van for a bit to catch up on computer things
and then joined the boys on the couch to watch the dismal performance. By the
end of the match the Socceroos had lost 2 -0.
I left the boys to continue analysing the game and returned
to the van ready to get some needed sleep.
