Day 268 - Saturday 23 September - Port Maquarie

Day 268
Saturday
23 September 2017- Began "The Angels' Share" By JR Ward. This is the follow up to the book "THe Bourbon Kings" that I read earlier in the trip, so I am interested to see the story unfold.

Port Macquarie

Despite being tired, neither of us slept brilliantly and we weren’t going to be afforded a sleep in, with the alarm going off at 7am. Paul was up and left me to slowly pull myself out of bed and get sorted. We ate breakfast as we both caught up on computer bits.
After I had a shower, we made our way to The Little Brewing Co to meet Steve fro 9.30am. Paul was given a run down before being given a taste of the beers, all 15! He was right in his element, finishing off with four Belgian styles that are his absolute favourite.

We stayed for an hour, before heading into town and parking near the main beach. We have been a bit slack with the walking of late so we were keen to get out and wander, after all the beers, Paul needed time in the fresh air to sober up.
We found the Town Beach and walked along the footpath to a viewing platform on the hill. We then continued in towards town.

Port Macquarie is known for Koalas and as such they have many koala sculptures around town decorated by different artists. There are 57 in total, while I didn’t find them all, I was able to check out a few as we wandered the streets and checked out various old buildings along the way.

We continued our walk along the front and around to a small marina where tourist and fishing boats were moored. We then ducked back into the city centre and wandered streets we had yet to navigate.
Before we knew it, it was midday and we were hungry. We stopped in at a Fish n Chippy where we sat in and ate. Paul chatted to Damon for a while, getting the low down on things going on there, happy to hear his mate’s voice.
Following lunch we made our way back to the water’s edge and walked the path along the Hastings River. The rocks used to hold back the water have been painted by many over the years and it was quite interesting wandering along and reading the various messages. A new family was getting ready to immortalise themselves and their trip to Port Macquarie, a rock freshly painted white and two girls busily sketching up a design.

Once we had followed the path around we returned to Town Beach and then back to the car. We drove through the streets heading to the Beer and Cider Festival venue further along the river. After parking at the large sports club, we walked to the front entrance only to find that it was $35 to enter and you had to then pay for your drinks. Paul wasn’t going to fork out, so we returned to the car and made our way back to the van.
