Day 261
Saturday
16 September 2017 – Completed the book “The Miniaturist” by
Jessie Burton. This was a great book that I really enjoyed. It was not what I expected and
kept me wanting to read more.
Grafton – Bellingen
We were awake at 7am with the goats letting us know that
they wanted out into the yard, so Paul tended to them as I began reading once
again. We remained in bed until 8.15am before deciding to get out and have a
shower.
Sarah and Dylan arrived home just as we were preparing to
return to the van. We had a brief chat before heading back for breakfast. After
pottering around, I went off to hang out with the farm animals and get my
morning cuddle with the goats. Paul joined me shortly after and we wandered
amongst the animals. The black duck took offence at Paul and began attacking
him, so we high tailed it out of the yard before the duck became dinner.
We spent a bit more time with Sarah and Dylan as they got
ready to head out for the hockey finals. We left them to it at 10.30am,
grabbing our things and making the hour and a half drive to Bellingen, where we
were going to check out Bellingen Brewery.
The drive to Bellingen took us along the same route we
followed to get to Coffs Harbour but then ducked inland for a further 35km. We
entered a dairy area, with lots of farms following the river valley.
When we arrived in the small country town we were
overwhelmed with how busy the place was and we struggled to find a place to
park, finding a side street out of the centre. We walked the main street,
following Google maps to find the brewery that was tucked away.
We made ourselves known to the staff, found a place to sit
and Paul began his beer tasting. The place slowly filled as we sat about chatting
and drinking. The smell of the delicious pizzas was wafting through the venue
and we couldn’t resist ordering our own. We were so glad we did.
When we had finished our lunch we made our way through the
town checking out the quirky buildings and stores. We came across an
interesting sculpture in honour of David Helfgott who had spent time living in
the town.
We did a browse of a hippy antique shop, reminding us that
this is quite an alternative little town, but also has the feel of somewhere
like Kalamunda. A market was running on the local oval, but by the time we
reached its stall holders were packing away their wares.
We returned to the car to collect Paul’s beer growlers and
did a quick return to Bellingen Brewery to have them filled and then it was
back to the car so that we could return home.
It was an easy drive back home, arriving back in Grafton at
4.30pm. We did a quick Coles run and then it was on to the van, unloading our
things before locking the animals into their night time retreats. We then
retreated to the house, settling in for
the evening watching TV.
