Day 259
Wednesday
13 September 2017 –
Goodwood Island – Grafton
I was awake at 7am and happy to read as Paul continued to
snooze. It was an hour later before we finally emerged from the warm bed ready
to start our next adventure. We set about competing the morning rituals before
loading the car back on the trailer and hitting the road at 9.30am.
Today we were heading to the inland town of Grafton, set on
the Clarence River, it was an hours drive from our coastal setting following
the A1 for the majority of the way.
We skirted the town, continuing a further 7km into the
suburbs and then the rural properties, eventually finding our stay in Rushford,
a 25acre property where Scott’s parents live. We unhitched the car before
driving into their front yard and parking up, being greeted by a pair of very
friendly but rather noisy goats. They were so cute.
We sorted ourselves out and made up lunch before heading
into Grafton, parking in the centre of town and taking off on foot around the
main streets. We checked out the architecture and the shops on offer before
finding the river and walking along the top bank. A sign indicated that Grafton
was the birthplace of hang gliding.
We attempted to get Paul into see a Doctor, but everywhere
we turned was fully booked for a couple of weeks, so we had to resort to a
clinic in Coffs Harbour which we could get into tomorrow.
We returned to the car for our lunch and then found a bench
in the shade by the river to eat and enjoy the view. Once we were done we
dropped in to the nearby pub for a couple of drinks and to continue enjoying
the tranquillity of the spot.
We made our way back to the car and drove on to BCF for a
few bits we needed and then crossed the road to the info centre to pick up some
information on things to do in and around Grafton.
We returned to the van, Paul deciding to move it closer to
the house so we could plug into power and water. We spent some time out in the
paddock with the menagerie of farm animals; 2 goats, 2 duck, 2 dogs and
numerous chickens. All of them wanted to say hello and have a scratch and a
chew on our shorts.

From the top paddock there was a great view over the rest of
the acreage and beyond. I can imagine it is quite peaceful just sitting back on
the patio and admiring the view.
We returned to the van, running the air con. The cloud had
come in making it quite sultry and though it seemed like it wanted to rain, we
knew it probably wouldn’t happen.
Just after 4pm, Sarah and Dylan arrived home from work and
we spent some time chatting before hanging out in the paddock as they fed the
barnyard animals.
We organised what we would do for dinner and then hung out
in side watching telly. Dylan then drove the four of us into Grafton and to the
Grafton Hotel. We found a spot to sit, ordered and then sat about chatting as
we enjoyed our meal and the company. It was a lovely evening.
We returned home and continued our chatting as we watched
Youtube videos of music clips. We were well educated by Sarah with her music
choices. It was a fun way to finish off with plenty of laughs but again a late
one.
