Day 253
Thursday
7 September 2017 –
Casino – Byron Bay
Moving day upon us again. Paul was awake fairly early so we
were up and getting straight into our routines. 9am arrived and we were ready
to take the van on the road. Having completed the drive to Byron yesterday we
were fully aware of the conditions of the road that stood before us and it
wasn’t going to be pretty there are more potholes than bitumen and I mused as
to where they are spending WA’s GST money, because it isn’t on the roads.
We stopped in at a BP to fill the van before finally driving
on to Byron Holiday Park, checking in and then heading to our chosen site. As
predicted the roads had played havoc with our car. The tie down straps had
shifted under the wheels leaving Paul with a headache trying to work out how to
get them off. In the end I had to reverse the car off while he pulled on the
straps to release them.
After setting up, we went for a walk around the park and
then out along a lake that runs between the park and the beach. Paul thought it
would be perfect for fishing until we passed a sign telling us it wasn’t
allowed.
As we made our way back we came across a dumped purse that
we searched, found a drivers licence so figured we would return it when we were
out. At midday I was straight on to the computer and buying tickets to Robbie
Williams’ concert for next March. Thankfully I was able to get them with little
drama.
We then took off for the afternoon, first stop return the
purse, which I just dropped in the letterbox and then it was back to Stone
& Wood Brewery where we met up with Cale once again who greeted us like
long lost friends. He happily showed us through the brewery area and then gave
Paul a taste of one of the Fixation range straight from the bright tank.
From there, he was finding all these different bottles of
beer they have made to share with Paul and as I wasn’t drinking he joined us
along with one of the other workers. It was such a fun afternoon and in the end
we exchanged contact details and promised to keep in touch with the Freo boy.
We then made our way back in to town and parked at the
Woollies to avoid paying for parking which you have to do EVERYWHERE! I really
hate paid parking and when you see the roads it is obvious that the parking
money isn’t going into improvement of this infrastructure.
We walked down the street finding a sushi train store to
stop and finally have a late lunch. Once my belly was satisfied we continued
our walk down the street towards the beach. We passed a very groovy bus that we
thought would make an awesome motorhome.
Once beachside, we walked along the footpath admiring the
flat water of the bay. In the background we could see the Cape Byron lighthouse
that we will check out tomorrow. It was such a beautiful day, sunny and bright and
warm enough to wear shorts and t-shirts. Just divine.
We made our way back towards the car, but came across the
Railway Hotel that Cale had told us about, so we stopped in to try another
Stone & Wood beer Paul couldn’t try at the brewery and then it was time to
head home.
At 5pm, I was back on the computer and hoping I would be
lucky enough to finally pick up tickets to the Ed Sheeran concert that I had
tried desperately to buy in May but couldn’t get a hold of. Thankfully this
time I was successful, which means we will now have two concerts to attend in
March. YAY!
We then set about going through the photos, writing the blog
and beer reviews and generally catching up on everything we have missed over
the past few days. A bit of a mission, but with good internet at the park, it
was fairly easy going.
We ate dinner, before Paul put on a DVD to watch while I
finished up on the computer and then it was time for bed.
