Day 258
Tuesday
12 September 2017 – Happy 13th Wedding
Anniversary to us.
Goodwood Island - Yamba
I think we are getting lazy. Paul got up to go to the loo
telling me we were all fogged in, but I just couldn’t lift myself from bed and
instead pulled the covers up over my head and continued to sleep.
At 8am, Paul went off for a shower and I read my book until
he returned then we both got into breakfast and general morning routine stuff
though there was certainly no hurry.
We packed up the car and made our way to Yamba, on the
southern bank of the Clarence River and about 30min from here. The town is
significantly larger than Iluka and feels more like Busselton.
We navigated to a beach heavily populated by surfers making
the most of the rolling break. We walked out over the rocky headland to take in
the view. The rock structure was quite striking, with ribbons of iron like
spider veins crawling out across the smooth flat rocks.
We returned to the car and drove to the lighthouse at the
top of the hill where we walked and admired the view over the Clarence River
mouth and the north wall we had walked yesterday.
We continued our ambling drive, parking at the main beach
where we could see the sea pool. We did a walk along the road perusing the
local restaurants and examining the menus to help us decide on where we would
eat for our anniversary.
We took the road down the hill and into the main centre, we
walked up and down the main street, checking out the shops before returning to
the car and driving on to dolphin beach where we walked once again enjoying the
fresh sea air and the warmth of the sun which was heating us up nicely.
As it was only 11.30am and too early for lunch, we drove out
of town to find a doctor for Paul as his voice has disappeared and his throat
is still inflamed. Unfortunately the clinics didn’t have spaces so he will have
to wait until we get to Grafton.
We did a quick stop at Coles before returning to the centre
and parking near the restaurants. We chose the Italian, but despite the door
being open they were not serving lunch so we headed next door to the Chinese.
We had the restaurant to ourselves and we were served promptly with delicious
dishes, so in the end it was a perfect spot for lunch.
When we finished, we walked across the road to the Pacific
Hotel where we had another drink and took in the view over the main beach. Paul
was able to have a pint of Stone & Wood Jasper Ale and miraculously his
voice came back, who would have thought.
We stood out on the balcony to take in the view, watching
lizards scurry about below us. The cloud had started to roll in from the
eastern horizon and there was now a cool breeze wafting in, but it was still a
perfect day.
We returned to the car and then made our way back to the
tranquillity of the van. Once again we jumped into lazy mode, putting on a DVD
and slothing about. Before we realised it, it was 5pm and I dragged Paul out
for a short walk along the river edge enjoying the view over the calm waters of
the Clarence. It is truly a very peaceful place and one you can’t help but
unwind at. We didn’t walk for long as Paul wasn’t feeling 100% and we were soon
back at the van.
I went through the day’s photos, while Paul returned to bed, but he didn't stay long, needing something for dinner. We watched another DVD before finally retreating to bed once again.
