2012 -From Aberdeen through Perth and on to Edinburgh
Day 51 and 108 to go
Well with dinner finally digested it was time to
refill it! Oh gawd…
We slept in a little later than usual then got
ourselves up and out to the restaurant for our breakfast. Today it came with
haggis so Paul tucked into his while I had a small nibble so I can say I have
had it. It really wasn’t that repulsive but I won’t go hunting it out again.
With breakfast complete we checked out and were on
the way to Blair Athol Distillery, the makers of Bells in Pitlorchy 1 ½ hours
away.
We had a wander around the shop and Paul enjoyed the
taster they gave us. We checked the variety of whiskies they stocked before we
were back in the car and heading to Perth 30 min away.
We found Perth easily and were able to get parking
close to the centre. We then walked to the tourist information to collect a map
and get the low down on what to see. We were told there was plenty happening at
Inch Park where there were Diamond Jubilee celebrations happening.
We walked to the nearest pub and had a drink before
walking through the town heading in the wrong direction. When we realised we
turned around and eventually we found Inch Park where all the action was
happening.
There were 1500 people in kilts. They were to be
running 8km. Nutters. It was quite lively with plenty of media coverage. It
seemed like it would be a great day.
We left them to it and found another pub for a drink
before returning to the car and driving on to Crieff where the Grouse Whisky is
distilled.
We wandered the shop and Paul had a sample before we
went to the restaurant where Paul bought a tasting paddle of 4 Grouse whiskies
and I had a sandwich. We sat outside enjoying the dry but cool day.
Following the drinks Paul had had I was given the
keys to the car to drive us the last hour and a bit to our B&B in
Edinburgh. Most of the time was spent on the highways. We did pass Stirling
castle on the way which is built on top of rock.
At 4.30pm we arrived at our B&B. We were shown
to our room. Unfortunately it was on the third floor that was accessed by a
narrow staircase much to Paul’s delight having to carry up the bag.
We stayed in the room for a while checking the net
and watching the MotoGP qualifying before deciding to walk into Edinburgh
central about 30 min walk.
It was starting to get cold but walking was keeping
the blood pumping. We found a small Chinese restaurant to enjoy a few dishes
that were yum. We then continued the trek on to a pub for a drink before making
it back to our B&B.
We watched TV and checked emails before heading to bed.
