Sunday 24 June 2012 - Last weekend in England
Day 72 and 87 to go
Another Sunday, unfortunately
it is our last one here in England. We are now down to our last few days before
we head on to the continent.
We dragged ourselves out of
bed after 9am and had breakfast while watching the TV. I got onto the Internet
and started doing some searching for package senders as we have plenty to send
home AGAIN! I also began working out where we head to next, making sure we had
some idea of where our hotel is in Amsterdam and how we will get there on the
pubic transport. With a bit of a heads up we shouldn’t go into meltdown when we
arrive.
Chell was still in the books
this morning but by 11.30 he was all done and shortly after Mary arrived. It
had been raining quite hard bit it cleared by lunchtime. We got ourselves ready
and then we all got in Mary’s car and drove to Maisie’s. We only stopped
briefly before getting back in the car and driving to The Lytton Arms for
lunch. We found our table ordered drinks and then checked the menu. The Sunday
roast looked good so that is what Paul and I went for along with mussels and
whitebait for entrée. The meals were delicious. It was a very relaxed
afternoon.
When we were all done we
returned to the car and drove down the road to the back of Knebworth where
there were many deer in the paddock. We
stopped and I took some pics. Some of the male bucks had massive antlers.
We took the windy back roads
through the country side to Maisie’s where we stopped for a quick cuppa before
heading on to Chell’s via a few of the old homes of Paul and Chell’s relatives.
When we got in Mary and I
watched the movie “27 Dresses“ while Paul and Chell worked on Mary’s car and
then entertained Chell’s neighbour’s children who had wandered across looking
for chocolate. The boys kept them entertained in the garden looking for bugs.
Shortly after their Dad came looking for them.
The boys joined us watching
the last part of the movie, much to their delight, before we turned on the
England v Italy ¼ final. The first half was not particularly entertaining and
when it was done Mary decided to head home. We said our goodbyes before she was
on the road.
I came in and made up some
salad and egg sandwiches for dinner that we ate while watching the second half.
Again there was nothing particularly exciting and it went through to full time
with no score.
With 30 min of extra time it
became a bit more desperate with Italy looking the better team having a goal
disallowed for offside. However, it finished with no score and went on to
penalties. Italy faltered early but recovered and took it 3 to 4.
With the soccer finished we called it a night.
