2012 - A day at the seaside
Day 58 and 101 to go
We woke this morning and it
was actually blue outside but by the time we were up and having breakfast it
had clouded over. Nonetheless, we decided we would be going for a drive to the
seaside to visit Clacton-On-Sea.
Chell rang to catch up and
sort out details for tomorrow. Then Paul rang Dario to see if he wanted to join
us on our road trip today. Before we left I bought 2 Lonely planet books online
that we will use for the rest of our Euro trip. With everything organised we
grabbed all of our gear and drove to Dario’s to collect him.
Clacton-on-Sea was 1 ½ hours
from Dario’s. It sits on the east coast just out from London. The drive itself
was not difficult, though some of the roads are a bit crappy particularly the
ones made of concrete.
By midday we had made it,
parked up and walked along the sea front where the tide was just beginning to
return. Out to the horizon there were many wind turbines generating power. It
is not a particularly beautiful sight and I hope we don’t ever have that to
look at living in Perth.
We continued down to the
Clacton pier. This was a lively amusement park area with rides and games
galore. It was quite busy with holidaymakers. We walked to the end and then
returned where we stopped for a hot roast roll that was delicious.
With lunch sorted we crossed
the road to the pub for a drink and a chat before walking the high street block
and checking the sights. When we returned to our starting spot we returned to the
pier and decided to stop at the mini golf for a game. It was a lot of fun and
we were playing better than the group in front who were holding up proceedings!
Paul and I both managed hole in 1’s on different holes. Yippee! And in the end
we drew on 35 with Dario on 38.
We walked back through the
different seaside gardens to where the car was parked but stopped at the
Martello pub for another drink before driving back to Dario’s.
The sun was out so I sat in
the back with the rabbit and guinea pigs before coming in to watch the Denmark
v Holland Euro match. Dario made us dinner that we ate while the soccer played
on.
With the soccer finished 1 –
0 to Denmark, and dessert finished we returned to Chell’s. There was a lot of mail that had been
delivered. 2 things were for us. Our Aussie flag to wave around at the MotoGP
and our west end show tickets to Jersey Boys.
We sat and watched the next Euro
match between Portugal and Germany while eating more sticky date pudding. I
checked the car insurance info that arrived in the post to read that the car
was insured for 12 months and 1395 pounds. Having reread the policy over and
over and picking my jaw up off the ground I checked our banking that shows we
only paid 150pd. As long as it stays that way then it is ok.
