Friday 8 June 2012 - Rain Rain go away
Day 57 and 102 to go
It was quite a blustery night
with rain being driven into our bedroom window for much of it.
We dragged ourselves out of
bed and had breakfast. All I felt like doing was slothing on the couch.
I rang Mary and organised to
go to her place in Soham on Sunday. We will go for lunch and then go and check
out Ely, the nearby town.
With our morning slipping by
Paul decided we needed to get out in the cold and wet so we took the car to
Letchworth. We needed to get more pounds as we have spent all the money we put
on our travel card. I am so glad work keeps paying us to do this lark! We then did a wander through the local shop where Paul was
able to buy some more of the beers on his list.
We returned to Chell’s and
waited for Dario to collect us for lunch. We then drove round to Maisie’s and
picked her up before heading to The Anchor pub for lunch. The pub is a typical
old style and quite quaint. We ordered our meals and sat around chatting. It
wasn’t particularly busy so we were fed quickly.
At 3pm we returned to
Maisie’s for a cuppa and we watched Letters and Numbers or Countdown, as it is
known here. We enjoyed the competition between us and when it finished Dario
drove us home again.
Back in the comfy seat we
parked ourselves in front of the TV where we could watch the first of the Euro
2012 soccer matches. Greece v Poland that ended in a draw with the help of poor officiating.
With the weather clearing we decided to check out the fair that had been set up in Hitchin town. Expecting a lively atmosphere, we were quite disappointed when we got there and it was virtually empty. We did a very quick lap through the muddy ground feeling sorry for the owners of the attractions and then returned home 15min later.
We had dinner while watching the next Euro match, Czech v Russia. I did some checking of things to do in London before we had more pudding for dessert.
Russia demolished
the Czechs 4 – 1. With the soccer over it was time for bed.
